The personal data we collect
Information you give us
When you request a quotation, book work or contact us, we collect the information you choose to provide. This usually includes your name, telephone number, email address, the address of the property concerned, and a description of the electrical work or problem. If you send photographs of an installation, we collect those too.
When we carry out work for you we also record the details needed to complete and certify that work. That can include the circuits and equipment at the property, test results, observations, the date of attendance and the certificate or report issued.
Information we collect automatically
When you browse this website we collect limited technical information through cookies and similar technologies. That can include your IP address, approximate location derived from it, device and browser type, the pages you view, how you arrived at the site and how long you stay. The cookies section below sets out exactly which services are involved.
Information from other sources
We may receive your details from a letting agent, landlord, managing agent or main contractor who asks us to attend a property, and from online directories and review platforms where you have contacted us through them.
Why we use your personal data and our lawful basis
Under the UK GDPR we must have a lawful basis for each use of your personal data. Ours are set out below.
| What we use it for | Lawful basis |
|---|---|
| Responding to an enquiry and preparing a quotation | Steps taken at your request before entering a contract, and our legitimate interest in answering enquiries |
| Carrying out the work you have booked, arranging access and attending the property | Performance of our contract with you |
| Issuing and retaining electrical certificates and reports, including Electrical Installation Certificates, Minor Works Certificates and Electrical Installation Condition Reports | Legal obligation and our legitimate interest in maintaining a record of work carried out, together with the requirements of our certification scheme |
| Invoicing, taking payment and keeping accounting records | Legal obligation under tax and company law |
| Dealing with a complaint, a warranty claim, an insurance matter or a legal claim | Our legitimate interest in defending our position, and compliance with legal obligations |
| Measuring how the website is used so we can improve it | Your consent, given through the cookie controls available to you |
| Displaying advertising on this website, including personalised advertising | Your consent, given through the cookie controls available to you |
| Sending you information about our services where you have asked for it | Your consent, which you can withdraw at any time |
Where we rely on legitimate interests, we have considered whether those interests are overridden by your rights and freedoms, and we have concluded that they are not. You can object to processing based on legitimate interests at any time using the contact details above.
Cookies and similar technologies
A cookie is a small text file placed on your device when you visit a website. Some cookies are necessary for the site to work. Others are used to measure how the site is used, or to select and measure advertising. This website uses the following categories.
Strictly necessary cookies
These are needed for the website to function, for security, and to remember choices you make such as a form you have started. They cannot be switched off through the site.
Analytics cookies
We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how visitors find and use the site. This sets cookies beginning with _ga, including identifiers for the specific Analytics properties we operate. These cookies record information such as the pages you visit, how long you spend on them and the route you took to reach the site. Google processes this data on our behalf. You can read how Google uses data at How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services, and you can install the Google Analytics opt out browser add on to prevent Analytics collecting data about your visits.
Advertising cookies
This website displays advertising supplied through Google AdSense. The following disclosures apply.
- Third party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve advertisements based on your previous visits to this website or to other websites.
- Google’s use of advertising cookies enables Google and its partners to serve advertisements to you based on your visit to this site and other sites on the internet.
- You can opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google My Ad Center or Google Ads Settings.
- You can opt out of the use of cookies for personalised advertising by some third party vendors at aboutads.info, or for European users at Your Online Choices.
- Third party vendors and advertising networks other than Google may also serve advertisements on this site. We do not control the cookies those vendors set. Where they participate in the schemes above, you can manage them through the same opt out pages.
Opting out of personalised advertising does not stop advertisements appearing. It means the advertisements you see are less likely to be based on your interests or browsing history.
Managing cookies in your browser
You can block or delete cookies through your browser settings at any time. Every major browser provides these controls in its privacy or security settings. Blocking all cookies may stop parts of this website working as intended. Guidance for consumers is available from the Information Commissioner’s Office.

Transfers outside the United Kingdom
Some of the providers listed above are based outside the United Kingdom, or store data outside it, including in the United States. Where personal data is transferred outside the UK we rely on the safeguards permitted by the UK GDPR, which include UK adequacy regulations and the International Data Transfer Addendum to the European Commission standard contractual clauses. You can ask us for more detail about the safeguards that apply to a particular transfer.
How long we keep your personal data
- Enquiries that do not become jobs: up to two years from your last contact, so we can follow up and answer later questions.
- Customer records, quotations and job files: at least six years from the end of our contract with you, which reflects the period during which a claim may be brought.
- Electrical certificates and inspection reports: retained in line with our certification scheme obligations and for as long as they remain relevant to the safety record of the installation.
- Accounting and tax records: at least six years, as required by law.
- Website analytics data: retained in line with the retention setting applied in Google Analytics.
When a retention period ends we delete the data or anonymise it so that you can no longer be identified from it.
How we protect your personal data
We use appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect personal data against loss, misuse and unauthorised access. These include access controls on the systems we use, encrypted connections to this website, and limiting access to customer records to the people who need it to do their work. No transmission over the internet can be guaranteed to be completely secure, so we cannot promise absolute security for data sent to us over the internet.
Your rights
Under the UK GDPR you have the following rights in relation to your personal data.
- Access. You can ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Rectification. You can ask us to correct data that is inaccurate or incomplete.
- Erasure. You can ask us to delete your data where there is no good reason for us to continue holding it. This right does not apply where we must keep records, for example certification or tax records.
- Restriction. You can ask us to suspend processing in certain circumstances, for example while we check the accuracy of data you have challenged.
- Portability. Where we process data by automated means on the basis of consent or a contract, you can ask us to provide it in a structured, commonly used, machine readable format.
- Objection. You can object to processing based on our legitimate interests, and you can object at any time to the use of your data for direct marketing.
- Withdrawing consent. Where we rely on your consent, you can withdraw it at any time. This does not affect anything we did before you withdrew it.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the details at the top of this policy. We will respond within one month. We do not charge a fee unless a request is clearly unfounded or excessive. We may need to confirm your identity before we release information.
We do not use your personal data to make automated decisions that produce legal effects or similarly significant effects for you, and we do not carry out profiling of that kind.
Complaints
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your personal data, please tell us first so we can put it right. You also have the right to complain to the UK supervisory authority.
