Electrical safety inspections
A periodic inspection report on the whole installation, for a let, a sale, a purchase or your own peace of mind. Priced by circuit, not by bedroom.
From £150 + VAT
Our NICEIC approved electricians take on the everyday jobs in Ellon homes and businesses: a dead circuit, extra sockets, new lighting, a tired fuse board or a full rewire. Small jobs get a clear price before any work starts, and anything bigger gets a fixed written price after a free survey. Phone 07304 027013 with your street and what needs doing.
We do not have an office in Ellon. Faithful Spark Electricians works from 17 Thomson Road, Peterhead, Aberdeenshire, Scotland, AB42 3FJ, and Ellon is well inside the hour from there, so the town carries no travel surcharge. The people who come out are our own team: Steven Watt, who runs the business, with Callum working alongside him. Every installation, alteration and inspection is certified to BS 7671:2018+A4:2026 under our NICEIC enrolment, 620239.
An ordinary booking in Ellon is usually given a date 5 to 10 working days ahead. Work against a deadline, such as a new tenancy or repairs flagged on an inspection report, normally goes in within 2 to 5 working days. If you need a written price, it usually reaches you within one working day of the survey. The phone is answered Monday to Friday from 8am to 6pm and on Saturday from 9am to 1pm: 07304 027013.
Ellon is one of the few towns where we have a full set of service pages. Each card below gives the starting price and links to the page with the Ellon detail, the process and the FAQs for that job. Figures exclude VAT unless marked 0% VAT.

Describe it on the phone. We will tell you whether it needs a survey, and roughly what it should cost, before anyone visits.
A domestic electrician installs, alters, repairs, tests and certifies the fixed wiring in a house: everything from the meter tails onwards, including the fuse board, the circuits in the walls and the sockets, switches and lights on them. These are the jobs Ellon households ring us about most that do not need a page of their own.
A breaker or RCD that trips and will not reset, a room with no power, lights that flicker, a socket that has scorched. We trace the cause with test equipment before replacing anything. The first hour of fault finding is £80 to £150 + VAT; more on our page for electrical fault finding in Aberdeenshire.
Extra double sockets in a kitchen or home office, LED downlights, outside lights and an outdoor socket for the garden or the car wash. A socket is £65 to £100 + VAT each on top of the first hour, and every addition is certified.
Smart lighting controls, energy monitoring and CCTV, quoted once we have seen where the cables can run and what the existing circuits will take.
A new circuit is recorded on an Electrical Installation Certificate and a smaller change on a Minor Works Certificate. Keep them with your house papers, because a buyer's solicitor or a letting agent may ask to see them.
Not on the list? Call 07304 027013 and ask. If it is fixed wiring in a house, it is almost certainly something we do.
Ellon has grown a great deal around its old granite core, so a job on one side of town can look nothing like the same job on the other. Knowing which you have tells us what to bring and what to check first.
Solid granite walls leave nowhere to hide a cable, so new runs go through floor voids and lofts wherever possible. Behind the plaster these houses often hold a mix of decades: an old board, a lighting circuit with no earth wire, a kitchen added later. We test before we price, so you pay for what the house actually needs.
Houses on the estates around the edge of town were wired to recent standards and usually just need more: sockets, outside power, a charger. We certify our additions on our own paperwork, leaving the builder's certificate untouched, and if the house is still under its new home warranty, check the terms with the builder first.
Flats bring shared stairs, often a landlord's duties and, for bigger jobs, a building warrant, because a flat needs one for a rewire where a house of one or two storeys does not. We tell you at the survey whether that applies.
Out towards Auchnagatt, Methlick and Tarves, homes can be a long cable run from the road, with workshops and sheds fed from the house. Those supplies need sizing for the distance and the right earthing at the far end, which we settle at a free survey.
Both pictures are car chargers we fitted in Ellon this year, taken on the day by our team. We show them here because they are the Ellon work we have photographed, not because chargers are all we do in the town.
They also show the difference between Ellon's homes. One charger sits on a rough granite wall at a rural drive, where the fixings and cable clips have to suit uneven stone. The other is on a pebbledash house wall beside the meter box, with a short run clipped tight to the render.
Whatever the job, the finish is the same: cable run straight and clipped, a weatherproof connection where it is needed, and a certificate at the end.

Quoting never carries a call out fee, and the written price is what you pay unless you change the job.
Small repairs and alterations in Ellon get a clear price before any work starts. Anything we can see and measure first, such as a board change, a rewire or a charger, is priced as a whole job in writing after a free survey.
| Type of work in Ellon | How we charge | Good to know |
|---|---|---|
| Tracing a fault | £80 to £150 + VAT, first hour | We stop to agree any repair cost before we carry on. |
| Each new socket | £65 to £100 + VAT, plus the first hour | Depends on the cable route and the circuit it joins. |
| Whole house inspection | From £150 + VAT | Covers the main board and five circuits; see below. |
| Replacement fuse board | £550 to £950 + VAT | Fixed after testing what sits behind the old board. |
| Rewire, three bed semi | £5,000 to £10,000 + VAT | Granite walls, floor access and finishes move it most. |
| Smart home charger | £900 to £1,300 + VAT | Up to 15 metres of cable included. |
A full electrical inspection, the Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR), starts at £150 + VAT with us, which includes the main board and its first five circuits. Every further circuit is £15 + VAT, and a second board, in a garage or a steading for instance, is £70 + VAT plus £15 + VAT per circuit on it. Typical Ellon homes come to about £255 + VAT with two bedrooms, £315 + VAT with three and £375 + VAT with four, as guides rather than caps. On a report issued under BS 7671:2018+A4:2026, only a C1 or C2 code makes the result unsatisfactory; C3 and FI (further investigation advised) are advisory, though a landlord should have an FI looked at promptly, as the Scottish Government's Repairing Standard guidance explains.
Ellon's commercial work splits three ways: the industrial and trade units on the Balmacassie side of town, the shops, cafes and offices in the centre, and the farm businesses out in Formartine. We test, repair and install in all three, from a commercial EICR at £300 + VAT to new circuits for a workshop.
Commercial jobs get a fixed price to a written scope, and if the power has to go off we plan the shutdown with you inside our working hours. The detail, including three phase work and planned maintenance, is on our page for a commercial electrician in Ellon.
Yes. NICEIC and NAPIT each run a free online search of the businesses they assess, and TrustMark lists the firms it endorses. Search any of them by postcode before you book anyone in AB41.
We are on the NICEIC register as Approved Contractor 620239, and on TrustMark under licence 4205123.
A limited company shows on Companies House. Ours is SC821028, registered in Scotland.
Part P is an English and Welsh rule and does not apply here. A quote for an Ellon house that mentions it was written for the wrong country.
Ellon is in Aberdeenshire. Where a job needs a building warrant, the owner applies to Aberdeenshire Council, not Aberdeen City.
Parking on the street and want to charge a car? A cable across a public pavement needs Aberdeenshire Council's permission, so check with the council before you buy a charger.

We are rated 5.0 from more than 100 Google reviews, most from around our Peterhead base. The two below are quoted word for word; neither names the town the job was in. Read every review on Google or see more customer reviews on our site.
“We contacted Faithful Spark Electricians to look at a redundant cable initially, left a voicemail and received a call back almost immediately. Arranged a day and time and Stephen turned up exactly as scheduled. From that initial meeting we were impressed with the work and professionalism, the job turned into a fan installation including coring work which Stephen organised and again impressed us with constant communication and turning up again as arranged. We would have no hesitation recommending Faithful Spark and will definitely use their services again.”
“Cannot praise Steven enough definitely the person if you need an electrician nothing too much bother will be on my phone list thanks so much”
We are based in Peterhead and drive down to Ellon for each job, covering the town centre and the Formartine villages around it.
Not to Ellon itself. For an outlying farm or village we confirm any travel charge when you book, never on the invoice afterwards. Further north and west, our town pages for Cruden Bay, Mintlaw and Oldmeldrum cover the next towns along, and the rest of the county is on our page for electricians in Aberdeenshire. Every town and suburb is listed on all areas we cover.
Steven Watt began as a Royal Navy apprentice in 2001 and founded Faithful Spark Electricians in 2023. He leads our team, with Callum working alongside him, and the electricians who survey an Ellon job are the ones who carry it out. Steven's City and Guilds qualifications are 2391-52 for inspection and testing, 2382-22 for the wiring regulations, 2365-03 for electrical installations and 2921-34 for EV charging.
Your enquiry is never sold on to another contractor. You deal with us throughout, and the certificate is issued under our own NICEIC enrolment.

No. We are based at 17 Thomson Road, Peterhead, in Aberdeenshire like Ellon, and we travel down for each job. There is no travel surcharge to Ellon, and any charge for an outlying address is confirmed when you book.
If there is a genuine safety concern, call us during opening hours and we aim to attend the same day. Our hours are Monday to Friday 8am to 6pm and Saturday 9am to 1pm, closed on Sunday.
Rewiring a house of one or two storeys needs no building warrant in Scotland. A flat, a maisonette or a building of three storeys or more does, and the owner applies to Aberdeenshire Council. We confirm at the survey which applies to your property.
Ellon town centre plus Auchnagatt, Methlick, Pitmedden and Tarves, and the farms and smaller villages around them. If your address is not listed, phone and we will check it while you are on the line.
Ring 07304 027013 or use the form. Give us the address, the postcode and a line about the job, and say whether the house is granite, on one of the newer estates or out in the country. We will come back with the next step and, after any survey, a fixed written price.
