Electrical inspection report
A full test of the fixed wiring for buyers, sellers, landlords and owners of the original Fairview houses, with every circuit coded.
From £150 + VAT
Faithful Spark Electricians works on houses right across Danestone, from the streets laid out in 1984 to the ones that followed. A first hour of fault finding is £80 to £150 + VAT, a home EICR starts at £150 + VAT, and bigger jobs get a free survey and a fixed written price. Call 07304 027013 to book.
We are not a Danestone firm: our base is 17 Thomson Road, Peterhead, Aberdeenshire, Scotland, AB42 3FJ. Danestone is on the north side of Aberdeen, the part of the city we reach first coming down from Peterhead, so your job is given a set date in the diary rather than a loose window. Our own team does the work, led by Steven Watt with Callum alongside him, and it is certified to BS 7671:2018+A4:2026 under NICEIC enrolment 620239.
Most bookings are made within 5 to 10 working days, and urgent jobs such as remedials before a tenant moves in are usually fitted in within 2 to 5. After a survey, the written quote reaches you within one working day. The phone is answered Monday to Friday 8am to 6pm and Saturday 9am to 1pm on 07304 027013.
Danestone was farmland until the early 1980s. Building began in 1984 around Fairview Street, and the estate grew through the Wallacebrae and Jesmond streets that came after. The houses are brick and render rather than granite, mostly detached, semi detached and bungalows, and mostly lived in by their owners, so the year a house went up is the best clue to what is behind its walls.
Aberdeen City, in the AB22 8 postcode sector. Danestone is a planned community inside the wider Bridge of Don area, which has its own page for an electrician in Bridge of Don. Any building warrant for a Danestone address comes from Aberdeen City Council.
The first homes went up around Fairview Street, where the community centre stands today. At roughly forty years old, many still run on their original consumer unit, often a split load board where one fault knocks off several circuits together. It is the job Danestone owners ask us about most.
The houses that filled the rest of the old farm through the late 1980s and 1990s. Their boards normally carry some RCD protection, so the requests are for new circuits: an electric shower, an induction hob, a garden room or office sockets the first layout never allowed for.
Danestone is mostly owner occupied, but some homes are rented out. A private let in Scotland needs its electrical installation inspected at least every five years, so landlords ask us for the report, a price for any remedial work and a visit time that suits the tenant.
Not sure where your house fits? Call 07304 027013 with the street and roughly when it was built, and we will tell you what we would check first.
Every figure below is before VAT. Work we can survey is fixed in writing before we start, and there is never a call out fee for a quote.
A full test of the fixed wiring for buyers, sellers, landlords and owners of the original Fairview houses, with every circuit coded.
From £150 + VAT
An old fuse box or split load board taken out and an RCBO consumer unit fitted, so a fault on one circuit stays on that circuit.
£550 to £950 + VAT
Partial rewires for a kitchen or extension, dedicated circuits for showers and hobs, and a full rewire where testing shows the cable is finished.
From £3,500 + VAT
A smart 7.4kW charger on the driveway or garage wall, with the supply, earthing and board checked at a free survey first.
From £900 + VAT
A protected supply to a garden office or shed, weatherproof outside sockets, and outdoor lighting on a circuit of its own.
Fixed price after a free survey
A breaker that will not reset, a run of sockets gone dead or lights that flicker. We trace the cause, then fix it.
£80 to £150 + VAT, first hour
On that call we say whether the job needs a free survey first, and offer you a date.
The first hour of fault finding costs £80 to £150 + VAT, and every other job gets a clear price before any work starts. Prices vary a lot between firms and regions across the UK, so the fair comparison is what each quote includes: VAT shown or left off, a certificate or none, materials or labour alone.
When nobody can say what is wrong until the cover is off, we trace the fault first. Fault finding has its own fee for the first hour because the testing has to come before any repair, and the repair is priced before we start it.
Inspections, boards, rewires and chargers are priced as a whole job after a free look. If something new turns up halfway through, you get its price and decide before we do it.
| Job in Danestone | Our guide price | What moves the figure |
|---|---|---|
| Fault finding, first hour | £80 to £150 + VAT | How hard the fault is to trace. The repair is priced before we start it. |
| Additional socket | £65 to £100 + VAT each | Charged on top of the first hour; the wall and cable route decide it. |
| Home EICR | From £150 + VAT | Covers the board and five circuits. Extra circuits are £15 + VAT each; a second board is £70 + VAT plus £15 + VAT per circuit on it. |
| RCBO consumer unit | £550 to £950 + VAT | The number of circuits and whether surge protection goes in. |
| Smart 7.4kW EV charger | £900 to £1,300 + VAT | The unit you pick and any cable beyond 15 metres. |
| Rewire, three bedroom semi | £5,000 to £10,000 + VAT | Floor access, the number of rooms and the making good. |
| Rewire, four bedroom detached | £7,000 to £14,000 or more + VAT | The same factors over a bigger house. |
A house from the first phase of Danestone is about forty years old, which is old enough for its board to deserve a proper look. These are the signs that usually bring the call:
On an original Danestone house our first step is usually an EICR, because it shows whether the board and the cable can stay. Under BS 7671:2018+A4:2026 a report is unsatisfactory only when it records a C1 (danger present) or a C2 (potentially dangerous). A C3 is a recommended improvement, and FI means further investigation is advised, which in a rented house should happen promptly.
If the board does have to go, an RCBO consumer unit costs £550 to £950 + VAT, tested before and after, with an Electrical Installation Certificate at the end. Call 07304 027013 to book the inspection.

Book the inspection before you budget for a new board or a rewire. You get the report and a separate price for anything it finds.
Most Danestone houses were built with a driveway or a garage, which makes a home charger a simple install for many households. At a free survey we check the incoming supply, the earthing and the consumer unit, then mount the charger on the wall nearest to where you park.
Every charger we fit is smart, as the law requires, and solar ready, so it can charge from your own panels when you add them. Cable beyond 15 metres, a board upgrade or new earthing is priced after the survey, never on the day. No driveway? Aberdeen City Council's EV charging FAQ currently says a charging cable cannot run across a public pavement, so check with the council first.
Steven holds City and Guilds 2921-34 for EV charging installation, and our OZEV reference is EVHS/WCS14254. More detail is on our page for EV charger installation in Danestone.

It depends on what has gone wrong, because some problems are not an electrician's to fix. We are not an out of hours service: we answer Monday to Friday 8am to 6pm and Saturday 9am to 1pm, and a genuine safety problem reported in those hours is treated as same day work. At any other time, work through the steps below.
| What is happening | Who to call | Do this first |
|---|---|---|
| Smoke, flames or a burning smell from a socket or the board | 999 | Get everyone out of the house. Do not open the board. |
| The whole street is dark, or the meter, cut out or incoming cable is damaged | SSEN on 105, free from a landline or mobile | Keep clear. That equipment belongs to the network, not to you. |
| Only your house is off and one switch on your board has tripped | Us, on 07304 027013, in opening hours | Unplug everything on that circuit and try the switch once. If it trips again, leave it off. |
| Water has reached a light, a socket or the board | Us, once the area is safe | Switch off at the main switch only if you can reach it with dry hands and dry feet, and keep that circuit off until it is tested. |
A circuit that keeps tripping is protecting you, so it is safe to leave it off until we can test it. SSEN's power cut advice explains what to check before you report a fault on its network.
We find the cause before replacing anything, so you are not paying for parts that were never the problem.
Not in the way most people mean. Scotland has no scheme for an electrician to sign off a homeowner's work after the event, and the Part P route that national websites describe is an England and Wales rule that does not apply here. An Electrical Installation Certificate carries separate signatures for the design, the construction and the inspection and testing, and nobody can sign for work they did not do.
Standard 4.5 asks for an electrical installation that does not create a risk of fire, burns, shock or injury. The Scottish Government's domestic Technical Handbook says it should be designed, installed and tested to BS 7671, and inspected and tested by people with sufficient technical knowledge, practical skills and experience.
Rewiring a house of up to two storeys needs no building warrant. Work in a flat or maisonette, or in a building of three storeys or more, does, and the owner applies before the work starts. Replacing a fitting with one of the same type needs no warrant under Schedule 3 of the Building (Scotland) Regulations 2004, provided the result is no worse than before.
We inspect and test it, write it up as an EICR, and price anything coded C1 or C2 before we touch it. The handbook notes that BS 7671 certificates can be issued to the person ordering the work as evidence of compliance, which is why the paperwork matters when you sell or let.
The Repairing Standard guidance requires a private let to have its electrical installation inspected at least every five years, with checks on any appliances the landlord supplies. For flats and larger portfolios across the city, see our page on an EICR in Aberdeen.

Most addresses within an hour of Peterhead carry no travel surcharge, and if one would apply to yours, you hear about it when you book rather than on the invoice. Upriver, our electrician in Dyce page covers the airport side of the Don, and our page for electricians in Aberdeen covers the rest of the city. Every town and suburb is listed on all areas we cover.
Steven began as an apprentice in the Royal Navy in 2001, founded Faithful Spark Electricians in 2023 and incorporated Faithful Spark Electricians Ltd on 29 August 2024. Callum works alongside him. Steven's City and Guilds awards are 2365-03 for electrical installations, 2382-22 for the wiring regulations, 2391-52 for inspection and testing and 2921-34 for EV charging.

The first hour of fault finding is £80 to £150 + VAT, and every other job gets a clear price before any work starts. Jobs we can survey get a fixed written price, such as a home EICR from £150 + VAT, an RCBO consumer unit at £550 to £950 + VAT or a smart EV charger from £900 + VAT.
Not in the way most people mean. Scotland has no scheme for an electrician to sign off DIY work after the event, and Part P is an England and Wales rule that does not apply here. We can inspect and test the work and give you an EICR on its condition, then price anything that needs putting right. Work in a flat, or in a building of three storeys or more, also needs a building warrant from Aberdeen City Council before it starts.
Start with what has gone wrong. Call 999 for smoke or fire, and SSEN on 105 if the whole street is off or the meter or incoming cable is damaged. We are not an out of hours service: we answer Monday to Friday 8am to 6pm and Saturday 9am to 1pm, and treat a genuine safety problem reported in those hours as same day work. A circuit that keeps tripping can be left off until we test it.
Yes. Danestone is a community within the wider Bridge of Don area of north Aberdeen, in the Aberdeen City council area with AB22 8 postcodes, built on farmland from 1984. We cover the whole of Bridge of Don as well as Danestone.
Not automatically. Age alone does not condemn a board, but many original 1980s boards are split load units where one fault cuts several circuits, and some have little RCD protection. We test first with an EICR from £150 + VAT, and if the board has to go, an RCBO replacement is £550 to £950 + VAT.
No. We work from 17 Thomson Road, Peterhead, and Danestone is on the side of Aberdeen we reach first. Your job gets a fixed date when you book, and the team that surveys it is the team that does it.
Yes. A private let in Scotland needs an electrical installation inspection at least every five years. Our home EICR starts at £150 + VAT for the main board and five circuits. Only C1 and C2 codes make the report unsatisfactory under BS 7671:2018+A4:2026, and an FI in a rented house should still be investigated promptly.
Call 07304 027013 or fill in the form with the street, the type of house and what needs doing. We reply with the next step and, after any survey, a fixed written price.
