Your Local Danestone EV Installer

An estate built for the car, now ready for the electric one.

Danestone is a planned family estate in the north of Aberdeen, built from the early 1980s onward, with the newer homes at Dubford and Jesmond on its northern edge. It was laid out around the car, so nearly every home has its own off street driveway, which is the single thing that makes a tidy, compliant EV charger install straightforward. We fit a smart charger, as the law now requires, that is also solar ready so it can charge the car from your own panels. On the original 1980s homes we check the board first, and on the new builds we work with the modern supply already in place. Steven Watt leads every Danestone install himself.

  • Smart 7.4kW chargers, the legal standard for new installs
  • Solar ready, so the car can charge from your panels
  • Ohme, TeltoCharge, Hypervolt Home 3 Pro and myenergi Zappi
  • DNO and ENA notification handled for you
  • From £900 + VAT, priced in writing after a free survey

What You Get in Danestone

An honest install, done once and done right.

An EV charger is a simple idea with a few details that matter. Here is what every Danestone install includes.

Free Site Survey

We check the supply, the consumer unit, the earthing and the cable route before quoting, so the from price is honest.

Smart by Law

Every charger we fit is smart, as the Smart Charge Points Regulations 2021 require, with scheduling and off peak charging built in.

Solar Ready

The units we fit can charge the car from surplus solar when you add panels, so the charger grows with your setup.

DNO Handled

Where the network operator needs notifying through the ENA process, we do it for you. No forms, no chasing SP Energy Networks.

Tidy Cable Routing

The cable runs along the line of the house, not strung across the front. We take pride in a clean, discreet finish.

NICEIC Certified

Every install is tested and certified on completion, carrying our NICEIC registration, so it is right for resale and insurance.

Danestone Home Types

Four kinds of Danestone home, one tidy charger on each.

The driveway and the consumer unit decide how an install goes. Here is how it usually looks across the estate.

Early 1980s Homes

The first estate phase with generous driveways. The main thing to check is whether the original split load board needs a way adding or an upgrade.

1990s & 2000s Homes

The later estate phases, usually on a modern enough board, so a dedicated RCBO protected circuit for the charger goes straight in.

Dubford & Jesmond New Builds

Modern homes with a fresh supply, often EV ready by design. A clean, quick install, and we know these developments well.

Homes with Solar

Where a solar ready charger really earns its keep. A myenergi Zappi can divert surplus solar straight into the car.

The Install Process

Four steps, from survey to a charged car.

We keep it simple and predictable, and most installs are done in a single visit on the day.

  4. 04

Smart vs Solar Ready

What smart actually means, and why solar ready is a bonus.

There is a lot of loose talk about EV chargers, so here is the straight version. Smart is the legal requirement. Under the Smart Charge Points Regulations 2021, every new home charger must be smart, which means it supports scheduling, defaults to charging at off peak times, and adds a small randomised start delay to protect the grid. And no, a three pin extension lead trailing across the drive is not a substitute, it is neither smart nor safe for daily charging. Every charger we fit meets the rules.

Solar ready is something different, and better. It is a product feature, not a legal rule, and it means the charger can take surplus power from your own solar panels and put it into the car rather than exporting it to the grid. A myenergi Zappi does this natively, and the Ohme Home Pro and Hypervolt Home 3 Pro support solar too. So the law requires smart, not solar. We simply fit units that are both.

  • Smart, as the Smart Charge Points Regulations 2021 require.
  • Solar ready as a feature, so the charger uses your own generation.
  • Scheduling and off peak charging set up in the app on the day.

If you are weighing up panels too, see our solar PV and battery storage page.

The Grant Truth

Most Danestone homeowners are not eligible, and we will say so.

You will see installers wave the EV chargepoint grant around. Here is the honest position for 2026. The grant is £500 per socket, available from 1 April 2026, and it is for renters and flat owners only, with private off street parking and the landlord or freeholder's permission. It is funded to 31 March 2027.

What that means for Danestone is simple. Most homes here are owner occupied houses with their own driveway, and those owners are not eligible. We would rather tell you that up front than dangle a grant you cannot claim. If you do rent, or own a flat with a private space, the grant applies and we will handle the application for you.

  • £500 per socket, from 1 April 2026, funded to 31 March 2027.
  • For renters and flat owners with private off street parking only.
  • Owner occupiers with a driveway are not eligible.
  • Where you qualify, we handle the application.

Choosing a Charger

Tethered or untethered, and which unit suits you.

The charger choice comes down to how you live, not just the badge. We will talk it through at the survey, but here is the shape of it.

  • Tethered has the cable attached, which is the convenient choice for a single car household, always to hand.
  • Untethered takes your own cable, which suits two electric cars, mixed connectors, or a cleaner look when nothing is plugged in.
  • Ohme Home Pro is a strong all rounder with a screen and deep tariff integration.
  • myenergi Zappi is the pick if solar is on your roof or your plan, with the best solar surplus charging.
  • Hypervolt Home 3 Pro is a sleek, fast app charger that suits a modern frontage.

All of them are smart and solar ready, and all carry a three year warranty. There is no wrong answer here, only the one that fits your driveway and your car.

Do I Need an Upgrade?

When the consumer unit needs sorting first.

An EV charger needs its own dedicated circuit, properly protected, and a supply that can carry it. On a Dubford new build or a recently upgraded home that is no problem. On an original 1980s Danestone home with the first split load board still in place, the board sometimes needs a way adding or a full upgrade before the charger goes on. We check all of this at the free survey, so there are no surprises on install day.

Where an upgrade is needed, we quote it plainly, and we can usually do the board and the charger in the same visit. A full RCBO consumer unit is from £550, up to £950 + VAT depending on circuit count. For wider electrical work in the area, see our Bridge of Don electrician page.

FAQs

Questions Danestone drivers ask before booking.

Don't see your question? Call 07304 027013 or get in touch and we will come back inside an hour during business hours.

How much does EV charger installation cost in Danestone?

From £900 + VAT for a 7.4kW smart unit with a cable run up to 15 metres. The Smart package with an Ohme Home Pro or TeltoCharge is from £995 + VAT, and the Premium solar ready package with a Hypervolt Home 3 Pro or myenergi Zappi is from £1,195 + VAT. A consumer unit upgrade, if needed, is from £550 + VAT, confirmed at the free survey.

Do I legally need a smart charger, or can I use a three pin lead?

A new home charger must be smart by law, under the Smart Charge Points Regulations 2021, with scheduling and default off peak charging. A three pin extension lead is not a proper or safe way to charge daily. Every fixed charger we fit is smart and compliant.

Can I get a grant for a home EV charger in Danestone in 2026?

Only if you are a renter or a flat owner with private off street parking. The £500 per socket grant runs from 1 April 2026, funded to 31 March 2027. Owner occupiers of houses with a driveway, which is most of Danestone, are not eligible. Where you do qualify, we handle the application.

Which charger is best if I have, or plan to get, solar panels?

The myenergi Zappi is the strongest solar choice, diverting surplus generation straight into the car. The Ohme Home Pro and Hypervolt Home 3 Pro also support solar. All are solar ready, so even if panels come later, the charger is ready for them.

How long does installation take, and who notifies the grid?

Most Danestone installs are done in a few hours on the day. From your first call, allow a week or two for the free survey, any DNO notification and scheduling. We handle the ENA notification to SP Energy Networks for you, so there is nothing for you to file.

Does my old consumer unit need upgrading first?

Possibly, on an original 1980s board. The charger needs its own dedicated, properly protected 32A circuit. If the board is full, ageing or lacks RCD protection, an upgrade may be needed. We confirm this at the free survey and can do the board and charger in one visit, with a board from £550 + VAT.
