The quick part: your driveway was ready in 1985.

Danestone was fields on the north edge of Aberdeen until building began around 1984, and the estate grew in phases through the eighties, nineties and two thousands, giving Fairview, Jesmond, Scotstown and the newer Dubford edge their driveways as standard. That off-street parking is exactly what makes a home charger viable, and it makes the install itself simple.

The Signature Part

One supply, two demands, and how we make them share.

Here is the part no other Aberdeen installer explains. A 7.4kW charger draws a continuous 32A, and that is a lot to add to a house that already runs its shower, oven and everything else off one incoming supply of sixty to a hundred amps. Add the two together at the wrong moment and you would trip the main.

Load management is the answer. We fit a small sensor, a CT clamp, on your main supply, and it lets the charger see how much the house is drawing. When the house is pulling hard, the charger eases the car back automatically, then ramps it up again when the load drops. The car simply charges a touch slower for those few minutes. The payoff is real: the charger and the house share one supply safely, and it is very often what lets us fit a charger on a Danestone home without upgrading the board or the supply at all.

What we find at a Danestone split-load board.

The classic Danestone consumer unit is a split-load board, one bank of circuits under an RCD and the rest on the main switch. It is the most common board on the estate, and it is usually not a problem for a charger.

A three-pin plug carries no such requirement but only gives around eight to ten miles of charge an hour and is not suitable for regular use.
