Granite Tenements
Holburn Street, Crown Street, Great Western Road. Often no driveway, on street parking only. We design pavement permitted cable channel installs and recommend approved tethered units like the Hypervolt.
Aberdeen's City & Guilds Level 3 qualified EV charger installers. Home and commercial chargepoints, NICEIC certified, MCS battery integration available. Zappi, Hypervolt, Ohme, Tesla, Pod Point. Same week bookings across Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire.
Faithful Spark Electricians is your local City & Guilds Level 3 qualified EV charger installer, covering Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire, and the wider North East of Scotland. We install single phase home chargepoints from 7.4kW, three phase commercial units up to 22kW, and integrated systems pairing solar PV with battery storage and EV charging on the same supply.
Every install is carried out personally by Steven Watt, who holds the City & Guilds Level 3 Award in the Requirements for the Design and Installation of Domestic and Small Commercial Electric Vehicle Charging Installations (610/4640/1) awarded in March 2026, plus the Level 3 awards for solar PV and battery storage. That matters in Aberdeenshire: the DNO connection is the same regardless of where you bought the unit, and the same engineer can size your fuse board, add a Type A or Type B RCD, and run the cable correctly the first time.

Eight common situations Aberdeen drivers and businesses face when switching to an EV. Click any scenario for the detail.
Most common Aberdeen install. 7.4kW tethered or socketed unit, fitted on the driveway, 5 to 15 metre cable run, full commissioning the same day.
Two EVs, two chargers, smart load balancing. Or a single 22kW three phase unit if your supply allows. Sized so the consumer unit does not trip.
Granite tenement flats, terraced streets around Holburn and Rosemount. Cross pavement solutions, lockable cable channels, council pavement permits.
Offices, retail parks, hotels, fleet depots across Aberdeen. Multiple chargepoints with load balancing, RFID or app authentication, OCPP back office for billing.
OZEV approved chargepoint installer. We submit the £350 grant on your behalf for eligible renters, flat owners, and leaseholders.
Renters, flat owners, and leaseholders may qualify for the OZEV £350 grant. As an OZEV approved chargepoint installer we apply on your behalf. We handle the install and the freeholder consent letter template.
The Zappi diverts surplus PV into the car. Pair an EV charger with new or existing solar and a battery, run the whole install through one qualified contractor.
Workplace Charging Scheme, up to £350 per socket, 40 sockets per business. Aberdeen contractors, tradesmen, and oil and gas service companies regularly upgrading.
Granite walls, slate roofs, mixed earthing systems, Victorian risers, modern new build distribution boards. Each one needs a different approach for a safe, compliant EV install.
Holburn Street, Crown Street, Great Western Road. Often no driveway, on street parking only. We design pavement permitted cable channel installs and recommend approved tethered units like the Hypervolt.
Rosemount, Mannofield, Mid Stocket. Driveway is typical, supply is usually adequate, fuse board often needs a Type A RCBO added. Mid range Zappi or Ohme Pro the common choice.
Bridge of Don, Cove, Kingswells, Countesswells. Garage or driveway always present, modern consumer unit already RCBO equipped, often pre wired for solar and EV. Fastest installs we do.
Union Street, Trinity Centre, Altens, Tullos, Dyce. Three phase supply usually present, scope for 22kW chargers, OCPP back office and access control via RFID or smartphone app.

Typical Aberdeen home install takes 3 to 4 hours. Dust sheets, weatherproof IP54 enclosure, BS 7671 compliant Type A or Type B RCD, full commissioning test before we leave.
We pair the charger to your phone, plug in your car for the first charge with you watching, hand you the NICEIC Minor Works or Installation Certificate, and confirm the 3 year warranty.
A home EV charger is a dedicated electrical installation that delivers between 3.6kW and 22kW directly to your vehicle through a hard wired chargepoint. Almost all UK home installs are 7.4kW on a single phase supply, since that is the maximum a typical Aberdeen domestic supply can deliver without an upgrade. Faster 11kW and 22kW units require a three phase supply, which is much more common in commercial premises and newer rural homes.
The chargepoint connects to your consumer unit through a dedicated circuit protected by either a Type A or Type B RCD. The cable run between the consumer unit and the charger is usually 5 to 15 metres for a standard install. Longer runs are possible and cost a little more for additional cable and labour. The charger itself sits in a weatherproof IP54 or higher rated enclosure on an external wall, typically by the driveway.
An EV charger install is not a simple plug in job. It is a dedicated electrical installation under BS 7671 (18th Edition), and it must be notified to the DNO (SSEN in the Aberdeen area) before commissioning. The wrong unit, the wrong RCD type, or a missed notification creates a real safety risk and can invalidate your home insurance.

The vast majority of EV charger installs we carry out in Aberdeen are single car home installs on a driveway. The customer drives a Volkswagen ID, Tesla Model Y, BMW i4, or one of the many other modern EVs sold in the city. The typical install is a 7.4kW smart charger on a single phase supply, with a 10 to 12 metre cable run from the consumer unit through the garage wall or along the external wall to a weatherproof IP54 enclosure.
Most Aberdeen homes built after 2008 already have a consumer unit that can take an additional 32 amp RCBO without an upgrade. Properties from the 1970s through 1990s often need a single RCBO added, which we include in the standard quote. Properties with a BS 3036 rewireable fuse board or a split load board lacking RCD coverage will need a full board upgrade at £550 to £950 + VAT, quoted separately and only after the customer agrees the price.
Typical brand choices in Aberdeen: Zappi for solar surplus integration, Hypervolt Pro 3 for premium tethered, Ohme Home Pro for Octopus Intelligent tariff, Tesla Wall Connector for Tesla drivers, TeltoCharge for budget conscious. We install every major UK approved unit and recommend the right one for your driveway, your car, and your tariff.

A genuine challenge for Aberdeen's granite tenement streets. Holburn, Crown Street, Great Western Road, Rosemount terraces, and Torry rows all share the same issue: residents park on the street, not on a private driveway. Charging from a wall mounted unit means the cable has to cross a public pavement, which is governed by the Highways (Scotland) Act and Aberdeen City Council pavement permits.
Three workable solutions exist for this kind of property:
The first step is always a phone or photo survey to understand your specific street, parking, and frontage. We have installed cross pavement systems in Holburn and Rosemount and can advise on the council permit process.

Aberdeen has a clear business case for workplace EV charging. The Workplace Charging Scheme (WCS) gives eligible employers up to £350 per socket toward installation, capped at 40 sockets per business. Many offices, retail units, and service centres on Wellington Road, Altens, Tullos, and Dyce qualify.
The technical requirements step up sharply for commercial installs. Typical scope:
Pricing for a small commercial install (2 to 4 chargepoints) typically falls between £4,500 to £6,500 + VAT before the WCS grant. Larger fleet depot installs are quoted on site survey. We have completed installs from single office park spots to 6 chargepoint car park installs across Aberdeen.

The most efficient EV charger setup in Aberdeenshire pairs solar PV, battery storage, and a solar surplus diverter charger like the myenergi Zappi. When the sun shines, the panels generate power. What the house uses goes first to the consumption, then surplus diverts into the car at the avoided import value (24p to 27.2p per kWh on Octopus tariffs in 2026), rather than being sold to the grid at 14.5p export.
The Zappi has three charging modes: Fast (full grid power), Eco (mix of solar and grid), and Eco+ (solar surplus only). On a sunny Aberdeen Saturday in May, an Eco+ charger can put 20 to 30 kWh of free solar electricity into the EV between 10am and 4pm. Combined with smart overnight charging on Octopus Intelligent (around 7p per kWh), Aberdeen drivers regularly cut their annual fuel cost from £1,500+ on petrol to under £150 on electricity.
Faithful Spark designs and installs the whole stack from one contractor: MCS registered solar PV (610/4841/0 qualification), Battery Energy Storage (610/4840/9 qualification), and EV charger (610/4640/1 qualification). One survey, one quote, one warranty.

The Office for Zero Emission Vehicles (OZEV) operates the EV Chargepoint Grant, worth up to £350 toward the cost of a domestic chargepoint installation. The grant has changed several times. The current 2026 rules limit eligibility to specific residents, not all homeowners.
You are eligible for the OZEV grant if:
You are not eligible if:
The grant covers up to 75% of the installation cost, capped at £350. Faithful Spark is an OZEV approved chargepoint installer, so we submit the £350 grant on your behalf and apply it as a discount on your install. Customers can verify our status on the OZEV register at gov.uk.

We install every major UK approved EV charger brand. The right one for your Aberdeen install depends on your driveway, your car, your electricity tariff, and whether you have or plan to add solar PV.
If you are not sure which to pick, our survey includes a recommendation tailored to your car, driveway, supply, and existing or planned solar. No upsell pressure: we will tell you when a £900 Ohme is the right choice over a £1,295 Hypervolt.

Call 07304 027013The wrong RCD type, the wrong cable size, or the wrong DNO notification can create a fire risk, invalidate your home insurance, and put your manufacturer warranty at risk. EV chargers must be installed under BS 7671 18th Edition by a competent person, with the correct Type A or Type B RCD, the correct circuit protective device, and notification to the Distribution Network Operator (SSEN in Aberdeen).

A standard 7.4kW smart EV charger costs from £900 + VAT installed in Aberdeen, with cable run up to 15 metres and a single phase supply. Premium tethered units like the Hypervolt Pro 3 start from £1,295 + VAT. Solar surplus charger (Zappi) from £1,195 + VAT. Eligible Aberdeen renters and flat owners save up to £350 through the OZEV grant administered via gov.uk.
A typical Aberdeen home install takes 3 to 4 hours on site. Same day install if your supply is suitable, no consumer unit upgrade is needed, and the cable run is under 15 metres. The supply will be off for around 30 minutes during the consumer unit work.
You are eligible if you are a renter, flat owner, or leaseholder in an eligible property with off street parking. Owner occupiers of detached or semi detached houses are no longer eligible since 2022. We confirm eligibility during the free site survey and submit the application on your behalf as an OZEV approved chargepoint installer.
Tethered chargers have the cable permanently attached, which is the most convenient day to day. Socketed (untethered) chargers let you swap the cable, useful if you have multiple cars or want a tidier install. Tethered is the better choice for single car households who charge in the same spot every day. We recommend the right option based on your driveway and how you charge.
Yes. The Zappi (myenergi) is the standout charger for solar surplus charging, automatically diverting unused PV energy into your car at the avoided import rate (24p to 27.2p per kWh in 2026) rather than selling it at 14.5p export. Hypervolt Pro 3 also supports solar integration. Steven holds the City & Guilds Level 3 Solar PV qualification (610/4841/0), so we can design EV and solar end to end.
You can charge two cars sequentially from a single 7.4kW charger (one finishes, you swap to the other). For two cars charging simultaneously you need either two chargers with smart load balancing, or a 22kW three phase unit. Many Aberdeen households with two EVs choose two 7.4kW chargers on dynamic load balancing for flexibility and resilience.
An EV charger needs its own dedicated circuit with Type A or Type B RCD protection. If your existing consumer unit is in good condition we add a new 32 amp RCBO. Older BS 3036 rewireable fuse boxes or split load boards lacking RCD coverage usually need replacing, which we quote at £550 to £950 + VAT separately. We confirm exactly what is required during the free survey, before any work starts.
Yes, with workarounds. Aberdeen tenement and terraced streets can use a cross pavement cable channel (council permit required, typically £1,200 to £1,800 + VAT), a lockable cable management arm, or the council's on street charging scheme. We carry out the survey to confirm which option suits your specific street and frontage.
A properly installed EV charger by a qualified installer is recognised by every UK home insurer. We provide a NICEIC Minor Works or Installation Certificate at the end of the install. A non compliant install can invalidate your home insurance, so make sure your installer is NICEIC approved, and signs off with a proper certificate.
We cover the full city from AB10 through AB25, plus AB31 (Banchory), AB32 (Westhill), and into Aberdeenshire (Stonehaven, Ellon, Peterhead, Fraserburgh, Inverurie, Banchory). Outlying villages should be confirmed by phone, but mainstream Aberdeen postcodes carry no travel surcharge.
Call Steven directly on 07304 027013, message us on WhatsApp, or use the form for a free, no obligation written quote. Same week bookings on most home installs. Workplace and fleet installs surveyed within 5 working days.
