EV Charger Installation in Mannofield from £900 + VAT

Our team installs 7.4kW smart chargers on Mannofield homes from £900 + VAT, and that price already includes the dedicated circuit, the first 15 metres of cable, the SSEN notification and your certificate. Call 07304 027013 for a free survey; the fixed quote usually follows within one working day.

A charger on a Mannofield driveway typically costs £900 to £1,300 + VAT, and the gap between those figures comes down to the model you pick and the length of the cable route from your fuse board. Faithful Spark Electricians holds OZEV authorisation and NICEIC Approved Contractor status, and we survey, wire, notify SSEN and set up the app ourselves, with the circuit certified to BS 7671:2018+A4:2026.

Mannofield sits in Aberdeen City, either side of Great Western Road in the west end, and we travel in from our base at 17 Thomson Road, Peterhead. Any travel charge for your street is shown when you book. Wiring, lighting or a fault elsewhere in the house is covered on our electrician in Mannofield page. Lines are open Monday to Friday 8am to 6pm and Saturday 9am to 1pm on 07304 027013.

Since 30 June 2022 the Electric Vehicle (Smart Charge Points) Regulations 2021 have required new home chargers in Great Britain to be smart. Each unit we fit is smart, as the law requires, and solar ready, so it can use your own panels if you add them later. Our guide to EV charger installation cost in Scotland breaks the figures down further.

Fitting a charger to an interwar granite semi in Mannofield

Much of Mannofield went up between the wars: granite semis and villas, with 1930s bungalows off Great Western Road. Many have a driveway or a garage beside the house. Some streets have on street parking only, which changes what is possible, as the grants and parking section below explains.

The cable route comes first

Solid granite is a sound wall for a charger, but a cable clipped across a dressed stone front is hard to undo. We agree the route with you at the survey: through the garage or loft where the layout allows, otherwise along a mortar joint or beside a downpipe.

Drilling through stone

Each hole is drilled to suit the cable and sealed afterwards, so the wall stays weathertight. The same care applies where render covers the granite.

Where the unit goes

Usually on the side return, a garage pier or the gable nearest your car's charging port, rather than the middle of the front elevation. What we do: walk through the options with you at the survey and fix the position before we quote. Call 07304 027013 to arrange it.

Planning in Scotland

Do you need planning permission for a charger in Mannofield?

Usually not. Class 9E of the Scottish permitted development order allows a wall mounted charging outlet in an off street parking area without a planning application, as long as the unit and its casing are no bigger than 0.5 cubic metres and it does not face onto a road within 2 metres of it.

When to ask the council first

A listed house may need listed building consent for work that affects its character, and a charger on a front wall close to the road can fall outside permitted development. If either applies, speak to Aberdeen City Council's planning team before booking.

How we handle it

We raise both points at the survey and, where we can, site the unit away from the road side of the house, so most installs need no paperwork beyond the SSEN notification. Unsure about your house? Phone 07304 027013.

Price your Mannofield charger from your phone

Photograph the fuse board, the electricity meter and the spot where you park, then send them with your postcode. A plain installation can often be priced from those pictures alone.

3kW or 7kW

Is a 3kW or a 7kW charger better for a Mannofield home?

A 7kW charger is the better buy for nearly every home with a driveway, because in one overnight off peak window it puts in more than twice the energy a 3kW unit can. That is why every package we fit runs at 7.4kW, the top rating for a home charger on a normal single phase supply.

7.4kW wall chargerabout 52kWhin a 7 hour window
3kW chargerabout 21kWhin a 7 hour window
2.3kW three pin leadabout 16kWhin a 7 hour window

Simple arithmetic: charging power multiplied by 7 hours, before the small amount lost as heat. Off peak windows vary by tariff, and your car can only take what its own onboard charger allows, so check the handbook.

When 3kW can be enough

If you drive a few miles a day and plug in every evening, slower charging keeps up. A three pin lead is for occasional use only: plug it straight into the wall, never into an extension lead or a cable reel.

When you need 7kW

Longer commutes, two drivers sharing one car, or a battery you want full by morning after a long day. Faster 22kW home charging needs a three phase supply, which most houses do not have. Ring 07304 027013 and we will check what your supply supports.

Choosing who fits it

Can a normal electrician install an EV charger in Mannofield?

Yes, a competent electrician is allowed to install one. Before you book anyone, though, three things separate a charger specialist from a general installer.

  1. OZEV authorisation. Grants are only paid through authorised installers, and ours is EVHS/WCS14254. Renters and flat owners with their own parking space need this.
  2. Section 722 knowledge. BS 7671 has a whole section for charging circuits, and Amendment 4 changed it this year. Steven Watt, who leads our team, holds City and Guilds 2921-34 in EV charging installation.
  3. The SSEN notification. SSEN runs the local network and must be told about a new charger. Occasionally it wants to check the supply first. We send the notification and tell you the outcome.

Comparing quotes?

Ask each firm how the charger is protected if the supply neutral is lost, and how 6mA DC faults are detected. We will price exactly the same scope on 07304 027013.

BS 7671:2018+A4:2026

Board and earthing checks under Amendment 4

Amendment 4 was published on 15 April 2026, and from 15 October 2026 every new circuit has to be certified to it. On a Mannofield survey we check two things before quoting: the earthing and the fuse board.

Earthing and protection

  • PME supply. Regulation 722.411.4.1 now requires one of three measures for an outdoor charger: an earth electrode, a device that disconnects within 5 seconds if the PEN conductor fails, or one that disconnects within 5 seconds when the voltage moves outside 207V to 253V. The old exemption for sites where a rod was impractical has gone.
  • TT supply. We test the rod and the RCD trip times, and replace a rod that fails.
  • DC faults. Either a Type B RCD, or a charger with built in 6mA DC detection to BS IEC 62955 behind a Type A RCD.
  • Arc fault devices. Not required on a charger circuit.

Your fuse board

Older Mannofield boards can lack a spare way or RCD protection, and some still have rewireable fuses. If yours can take the circuit, it goes there or into a small dedicated EV unit like the one pictured. If not, we replace the board on the same visit for £750 to £1,000 + VAT, and only when the test results call for it.

For a board on its own, see consumer unit upgrade in Aberdeen. Our guide does your consumer unit need upgrading for an EV charger sets out how we decide.

What we do: build the right earthing and protection into the fixed price, so install day brings no surprises.

Choosing a charger

Which charger suits a Mannofield home?

Choose by tariff and by roof. Cheap overnight electricity points to Smart; solar panels, or plans for them, point to Premium.

Tethered or untethered

A tethered charger keeps its lead attached. An untethered one takes your own cable and looks cleaner on a period wall when nothing is plugged in. Both charge at the same rate.

Solar now or later

The Hypervolt Home 3 Pro and myenergi Zappi in our Premium package can put surplus solar into the car rather than exporting it to the grid.

Tesla and Evec

We are approved installers for both Tesla and Evec chargers. A Tesla Wall Connector or an Evec unit is fitted to its maker's instructions and priced after the survey.

Not sure which one? Call 07304 027013 and tell us your car and tariff.

Grants, checked 6 October 2026

Is there a grant for an EV charger in Mannofield?

Not for a homeowner with their own driveway, which covers most Mannofield houses. OZEV help runs to 31 March 2027 for the groups below. On 6 October 2026 Home Energy Scotland showed its home charge point fund as closed, so our prices are full prices.

Flat owners and tenants

75% of the cost of the socket and its installation, to a maximum of £500, if you have private parking you are entitled to use. A landlord or freeholder must agree in writing, and OZEV must approve before we start. As an authorised installer we deduct the grant from our invoice.

Landlords

Up to £500 per socket, with a ceiling of 200 sockets per landlord.

Owner occupiers with a drive

Not eligible for the household grant, so the package prices above are what you pay.

Streets with on street parking only

Some Mannofield houses have no driveway. Aberdeen City Council's EV charging FAQ currently says a charging cable cannot run across a public pavement, so check with the council first. A private bay you are entitled to use, with its owner's written agreement, is the workable alternative.

After the install

What is the 80/20 rule for EV charging?

The 80/20 rule means keeping the battery between about 20% and 80% for everyday driving, and charging to 100% only before a long trip. Batteries tend to wear more slowly away from completely full or nearly empty, and rapid public chargers slow sharply above 80%. Some cars are designed to be charged to full, so your manufacturer's advice comes first.

Set up at handover

Before we leave a Mannofield install, we set the charge limit and your off peak hours in the charger app or in the car, whichever your model uses.

Why a home charger makes it easy

With a 7.4kW unit on the wall you plug in each evening and top up a little, rather than running the battery low and then queuing at a public charger. Call 07304 027013 to book a survey.

How it works

Survey to first charge in Mannofield

  1. Survey. Free, in person or from your photos: board, earthing, wall and cable route.
  2. Written price. Fixed, normally within one working day, with VAT shown and extras itemised.
  3. SSEN. We notify the network operator and tell you if it wants to inspect the supply.
  4. Install day. Usually a few hours. Power goes off only for the final connection.
  5. Handover. Certificate and test results, app paired, charging schedule set.

We install across Mannofield and the AB15 and AB10 streets around it. After you accept, a standard job is usually booked within 5 to 10 working days, longer only if SSEN reviews the supply.

For the rest of the city, see EV charger installation in Aberdeen; further west, near the park, there is EV charger installation in Hazlehead. Letting a property here? A private landlord needs an electrical installation condition report at least every five years, and an EICR in Mannofield can be booked for the same visit as the charger.

Mannofield EV charger FAQs

Questions about EV chargers in Mannofield

Something else? Call 07304 027013 or send us a message; we normally reply within one working day.

How much does EV charger installation cost in Mannofield?

With us, a 7.4kW smart charger at a typical Mannofield home costs £900 to £1,300 + VAT. The price covers a dedicated protected circuit, up to 15 metres of cable, the right earthing, SSEN notification, testing and the certificate. Smart starts at £995 + VAT and Premium at £1,195 + VAT; a replacement board, where needed, adds £750 to £1,000 + VAT.

Can a normal electrician install an EV charger?

Yes, any competent electrician may legally fit one. What matters is that the circuit meets Section 722 of BS 7671, that SSEN is notified and, if you want a grant, that the firm is OZEV authorised. We are OZEV authorised (EVHS/WCS14254) and an NICEIC Approved Contractor (620239), and Steven Watt holds City and Guilds 2921-34 in EV charging installation.

Which is better, a 3kW or 7kW home charger?

A 7kW charger, for almost anyone with off street parking. In a 7 hour off peak window a 7.4kW unit can add about 52kWh, against about 21kWh at 3kW and about 16kWh from a 2.3kW three pin lead, before small heat losses and subject to your car's onboard charger. We fit 7.4kW single phase smart chargers as standard.

What is the 80/20 rule for EV charging?

Keep the battery between roughly 20% and 80% day to day, and charge to 100% only before a long journey. Batteries usually age more slowly in that range, and rapid chargers slow down above 80%. If your car's maker recommends charging to full, follow that instead.

Do I need planning permission for an EV charger in Mannofield?

Usually not. Under Class 9E of the Scottish permitted development order, a wall mounted outlet in an off street parking area needs no application if it is no larger than 0.5 cubic metres and does not face onto a road within 2 metres of it. A listed house may need listed building consent, so check with Aberdeen City Council first.

Is there a grant for a home EV charger in Mannofield?

Not for homeowners with a driveway. Renters and flat owners with private parking can get 75% of the cost, up to £500, from OZEV until 31 March 2027 if OZEV approves before installation, and landlords up to £500 per socket. Home Energy Scotland's home charge point fund showed as closed on 6 October 2026.

My Mannofield street has no driveways. Can I charge at home?

Only with a private space you are entitled to use. Aberdeen City Council's EV charging FAQ currently says a charging cable cannot run across a public pavement, so check with the council first. A bay in a private car park can work once its owner agrees in writing, and renters or flat owners may then qualify for the OZEV grant.

Will fitting a charger damage the granite on my house?

No. Granite is a solid base for a wall mounted charger. We use fixings suited to stone, drill only what the cable needs, seal every hole so the wall stays weathertight, and agree the cable route and unit position with you at the survey.

Do you fit Tesla chargers in Mannofield?

Yes. We are approved installers for Tesla and Evec chargers. A Tesla Wall Connector is fitted to Tesla's instructions, and the price follows the free survey because it depends on the cable route and your board.

How long does an EV charger installation take?

Usually a few hours on one day, with the power off only for the final connection. Most jobs are booked 5 to 10 working days after you accept the quote, unless SSEN needs to look at the supply first, which we would warn you about at the survey.
