OZEV for any grant
Chargepoint grants are only paid through authorised installers. We hold EVHS/WCS14254, so if you rent or own a flat with its own parking space, the grant comes off our invoice instead of being claimed back later.
We fit 7.4kW smart home chargers for Hazlehead households from £900 + VAT, and that figure already covers a new dedicated circuit, up to 15 metres of cable, notifying SSEN, testing and the certificate. Book a free survey on 07304 027013 and a fixed written quote normally reaches you within one working day.
Most Hazlehead charger installs come to between £900 and £1,300 + VAT, depending on the unit you choose and how far the board is from where you park. Faithful Spark Electricians is an OZEV authorised installer and an NICEIC Approved Contractor, so one team handles the survey, the new circuit built to BS 7671:2018+A4:2026, the SSEN notification and setting the charger up on your phone.
Hazlehead is in Aberdeen City, on the west side of town around Hazlehead Park, and our vans come from 17 Thomson Road, Peterhead. If your street carries a travel charge, it is on the booking confirmation, not a surprise on the invoice. For other jobs in the house, such as extra sockets, lighting or a fault, our electrician in Hazlehead page has the details. Phones are answered Monday to Friday 8am to 6pm and Saturday 9am to 1pm on 07304 027013.
Three fixed packages, all 7.4kW single phase, all smart. The survey settles what a postcode cannot: how your house is earthed, whether the fuse board has room, and the route the cable will take.
| Package or extra | Price from | Detail |
|---|---|---|
| Entry: basic 7.4kW smart unit | from £900 + VAT | Standard install on a single phase supply, cable run up to 15 metres |
| Smart: Ohme Home Pro or TeltoCharge | from £995 + VAT | Cheap rate scheduling from your phone, 3 year warranty, 15 metres of cable |
| Premium solar ready: myenergi Zappi or Hypervolt Home 3 Pro | from £1,195 + VAT | Charging from surplus solar, load management, voice control, 3 year warranty |
| Consumer unit replaced on the same visit | £750 to £1,000 + VAT | Recommended only if test results rule out adding a circuit to your current board |
| Longer cable runs, ducting or earthing work | priced at survey | Measured on the day; each appears as its own quote line |
The law has demanded smart home chargers in Great Britain since 30 June 2022, under the Electric Vehicle (Smart Charge Points) Regulations 2021. All four models we fit go further and can top the car up from spare solar if you ever add panels. For a fuller breakdown, see EV charger installation cost in Scotland.
On a single storey house the board, the meter and the drive are frequently on the same gable, and there is no upstairs floor to work round. A short, straight run means the package price is normally the final price.
For most drivers who park at home, a 7kW charger is the better choice because it refills a typical battery in one night, while a 3kW unit or a lead plugged into a three pin socket can take more than twice as long. Our standard install is a 7.4kW single phase smart charger, and the table shows what that difference means in hours.
| Example only | Energy for 20% to 80% | At about 7kW | At about 3kW | At about 2.3kW |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Example battery of 40kWh | about 24kWh | about 3.5 hours | about 8 hours | about 10.5 hours |
| Example battery of 60kWh | about 36kWh | about 5 hours | about 12 hours | about 15.5 hours |
| Example battery of 80kWh | about 48kWh | about 7 hours | about 16 hours | about 21 hours |
These are worked examples, not figures for any particular car. They divide the energy needed by the charging power and ignore the small amount lost as heat, so real sessions run a little longer. A car can only draw as much as its own onboard charger accepts, so check your handbook.
A low mileage driver who plugs in every night may manage with a slower option for a while. A portable lead in a household socket is meant for occasional use, and it should never run through an extension lead or a cable reel.
It is the top rating for a standard single phase home charger, it fills a battery inside a normal off peak window, and every package above includes it. Faster 22kW charging needs a three phase supply, which most houses do not have. Call 07304 027013 and we will tell you what your supply can take.
Most houses here have their own off street parking, which is the main thing a home charger needs. Around the park and along streets such as Groats Road and Hazledene Road you find 1950s and 1960s bungalows and semis, with larger detached homes nearby and the newer Countesswells houses to the west.
The unit usually goes on the side wall facing the drive. Where a path runs down the side of the house, the cable is clipped neatly along the wall so nothing crosses where people walk.
More drive space gives more choice of position. We fit the charger where the car's charging port ends up when you park, which keeps the lead short and off the ground.
A modern board with spare ways often takes the charger circuit without any other work. We still test the earthing before fitting. What we do: agree the wall, the cable route and the price on the survey. Ring 07304 027013 to book yours.

Send us a picture of your fuse board, one of the electricity meter and one of where you park, plus your postcode. For a straightforward house that is often enough for a written figure before anyone visits.
Yes. Any competent electrician can legally install a home charger. The real differences are grant authorisation, knowledge of the EV section of the regulations and handling the network operator.
Chargepoint grants are only paid through authorised installers. We hold EVHS/WCS14254, so if you rent or own a flat with its own parking space, the grant comes off our invoice instead of being claimed back later.
Charging circuits are covered by a dedicated section of BS 7671. Our team is led by Steven Watt, qualified with City and Guilds 2921-34 for EV charging installation.
A charger is a big new load on the supply, so SSEN, the local network operator, must be informed. Now and then it asks to review the supply before the install. We handle the notification and keep you posted.
NICEIC Approved Contractor 620239 and TrustMark licence 4205123, plus OZEV authorisation and Tesla and Evec installer approval. New circuits are certified to BS 7671:2018+A4:2026, with £2M public liability insurance behind every job.
Ask the other installer to confirm in writing how the charger is protected against a lost supply neutral, how 6mA DC faults are picked up and whose job the SSEN form is. Then phone 07304 027013 and we will price exactly the same scope.
The amendment came out on 15 April 2026. After 15 October 2026 no other edition can be used to certify new work. Four points affect an outdoor home charger.
What we do: check the earthing type during the survey and include the matching protection in your fixed price, so nothing changes on install day. Unsure what supply you have? Call 07304 027013.

Often it is. A board with a free way and RCD protection can take the new circuit, or we mount a small dedicated EV unit beside it, like the one in the photo.
A board with no spare way, no RCD protection or old rewireable fuses normally has to be replaced first. Done during the charger visit that costs £750 to £1,000 + VAT, and we only suggest it when the test results show it is needed.
If the board is the only job, see consumer unit upgrade in Aberdeen. The question does your consumer unit need upgrading for an EV charger has its own guide, explaining how we judge it.
Let your tariff and your roof decide. A cheap night rate points to the Smart package; panels now or later point to Premium.
Pick Smart (TeltoCharge or Ohme Home Pro), from £995 + VAT. Set the cheap hours once in the app and the car charges inside them.
Pick Premium (Hypervolt Home 3 Pro or myenergi Zappi), from £1,195 + VAT. Spare solar goes into the car instead of being exported.
Tesla and Evec both list us as approved installers. A Wall Connector or an Evec charger goes in exactly as its maker specifies, with the price confirmed once we have surveyed.
Tethered units keep the lead attached and ready; untethered ones take your own cable and look tidier with nothing plugged in. Both charge at the same speed. Call 07304 027013 to talk it through.
Some households can. A homeowner with their own drive, which covers most of Hazlehead, is not eligible. Help from OZEV is open until 31 March 2027 for these households.
OZEV pays 75% of the socket and its installation, capped at £500. Conditions: a private parking space you are entitled to use, written consent from the landlord or freeholder, and OZEV approval issued before we start.
£500 maximum per socket, and no more than 200 sockets in total for one landlord.
The household grant excludes you. On 6 October 2026 Home Energy Scotland showed its home charge point fund as closed, which is why every price on this page is the full price.
Aberdeen City Council's EV charging FAQ currently says a charging cable cannot run across a public pavement, so check with the council first. The practical alternative is a private bay you are entitled to park in, with written agreement from whoever owns it.
There is a public charger in the Hazlehead Park car park. It is handy for a top up while you are at the park, but for daily driving a charger on your own drive is cheaper to plan around and ready every time you get home.
Checked on 6 October 2026, the council's list of charging locations shows a fast charger with two public sockets in the eastern car park at Hazlehead Park. Zapmap shows one fast device there with two 22kW Type 2 connectors, listed under both ChargePlace Scotland and EZO as the council moves its network to EZO. The same council list also shows a rapid charger and standard sockets at Viewfield Road car park, AB15 7XL. We do not quote public prices; check the EZO app or Zapmap for current rates.
A public charger means a trip, possibly a queue and a time limit. A 7.4kW unit on your wall adds roughly 7kWh for every hour it is connected, so plugging in when you get home and charging on an off peak window covers most weekly driving.
Day to day, aim to unplug at around 80% and plug in before the car drops much under 20%, saving a full charge for long journeys. Lithium batteries tend to age more gently away from the extremes, and public rapid units crawl once past 80%. A few cars are built to sit at 100%; the manufacturer's guidance comes first.
Before we leave, the 80% cap and your cheap rate hours are programmed, either through the charger app or the car's own menu. Parking on your own drive in Hazlehead? Call 07304 027013 for a price.
We cover all of Hazlehead and the surrounding AB15 streets. Once you accept, a standard job normally gets a slot in 5 to 10 working days, longer only if SSEN reviews the supply.
Elsewhere in the city, our EV charger installation in Aberdeen page applies; for the estates across the bypass there is our EV charger installation in Kingswells page. Own a rented home here? A landlord's electrical inspection is due at least every five years, so book an EICR in Hazlehead alongside the charger to save a second trip.

A 7.4kW smart charger at a typical Hazlehead house costs £900 to £1,300 + VAT with us. Included: 15 metres of cable, its own protected circuit with suitable earthing, the SSEN paperwork, testing and certification. Smart costs from £995 + VAT, Premium from £1,195 + VAT, and a new board where one is required is £750 to £1,000 + VAT on top.
For most people a 7kW charger is better, because it refills a typical battery overnight while a 3kW unit or a three pin lead can take more than twice as long. As a worked example, a 60kWh battery needs about 36kWh to go from 20% to 80%: about 5 hours at 7kW against about 12 hours at 3kW. Our standard install is a 7.4kW single phase smart charger.
Legally, yes, if they are competent. Section 722 of BS 7671 still applies, SSEN still needs telling, and only OZEV authorised firms can process a grant. We hold OZEV authorisation EVHS/WCS14254 and NICEIC Approved Contractor status 620239, and our team leader Steven Watt is qualified to City and Guilds 2921-34 for EV charging.
It is a daily habit: stop charging around 80%, top up before falling much below 20%, and fill to 100% only ahead of a long drive. Batteries generally age more slowly in that middle band, and rapid chargers slow right down past 80%. Where the manufacturer recommends charging to full, do that instead.
Homeowners cannot claim one. Tenants and flat owners who have private parking may receive 75%, capped at £500, through OZEV up to 31 March 2027, provided OZEV approves before installation. Landlords get up to £500 a socket. On 6 October 2026 Home Energy Scotland listed its charge point fund as closed.
At the Hazlehead Park car park, where Aberdeen City Council lists a fast charger with two public sockets in the eastern car park. Zapmap shows it with two 22kW Type 2 connectors, under ChargePlace Scotland and EZO. The council also lists chargers at Viewfield Road car park, AB15 7XL. Check the EZO app or Zapmap for prices and availability.
Often not. If there is a spare way and RCD protection, the circuit goes on the existing board or into a compact EV unit next to it. Rewireable fuses, or no room at all, usually mean a new board, at £750 to £1,000 + VAT when fitted with the charger. Testing comes before any recommendation.
Only if you have a private space you are allowed to use. Aberdeen City Council's EV charging FAQ currently says a charging cable cannot run across a public pavement, so check with the council first. A numbered bay in a private car park is possible once its owner agrees in writing, and a renter or flat owner may then qualify for the OZEV grant.
Yes, Tesla and Evec have both approved us to fit their chargers. A Wall Connector is installed to Tesla's own instructions, and because the cost turns on the cable route and your board, the figure follows the free survey.
The work itself fills part of one day, with a short power cut only for the final connection. Expect a slot 5 to 10 working days after you accept, unless SSEN decides to inspect the supply first; we warn you at the survey if that looks likely.
Phone 07304 027013 or fill in the form with your street name, your car, the spot you park in and the location of your fuse board, and we will set up a free survey and email a fixed written price, normally within one working day.
