Granite Village Core
The older cottages and houses around North Deeside Road. Solid granite walls, often original or once updated wiring. Careful cable routing and reinstatement.
Faithful Spark Electricians look after homes across Culter, the westernmost of Aberdeen's Deeside suburbs. Careful rewires and fuseboard upgrades for period granite cottages, EV chargers and smart work for the newer estates, plus EICRs and fault finding. Every job led personally by Steven Watt.
Peterculter, or just Culter to anyone who lives here, sits about eight miles west of the city centre on the north bank of the River Dee, where the Culter Burn comes down to meet it. It is the westernmost of Aberdeen's Deeside suburbs, reached along the A93 North Deeside Road past Cults, Bieldside and Milltimber. We know the Mannie on the Rock, the old paper mill story and the Deeside Way that runs through the village. We also know the wiring behind the granite. The older cottages around North Deeside Road, the post war streets and the modern estates on the edges each ask something different of an electrician, and we put the plan in writing first. Steven Watt leads every Culter job himself.

One village, a real spread of property ages. Here is the work we are called out for most often across AB14, whether the house is granite, post war or brand new.
Full and partial rewires for older village stock, threaded through solid walls without wrecking the place.
Old rewirable boards swapped for full RCBO consumer units, every circuit on its own protection.
Smart, solar ready home chargers sited tidily on estate and village driveways across AB14.
Condition reports for homeowners selling or renovating, and landlord certificates to the Repairing Standard.
Smart heating, lighting and EV setups for the newer estates, plus indoor and garden lighting.
Tripping breakers, dead sockets, lights out. Quick diagnosis and a fix, with the price agreed first.
Peterculter grew out from a granite village core into post war streets and then modern private estates. The age of the house decides how the wiring is approached, so we look before we quote.
The older cottages and houses around North Deeside Road. Solid granite walls, often original or once updated wiring. Careful cable routing and reinstatement.
The streets that filled in around the old village. Tired lighting circuits, missing main bonding and rewirable fuse boards that are due an upgrade.
The newer builds on the fringes of Culter. Sound wiring, but ideal for EV chargers, extra circuits, smart heating and garden socket additions.
Converted steadings, flats and properties from the paper mill era. Quirky layouts that need regulation compliant rewiring done with respect for the building.

Call 07304 027013An older cottage in the granite core of Peterculter is not a fresh first fix. The walls are solid stone, the layouts have grown over a century or more, and the original character is part of why people live here. A rewire has to bring the installation up to current standards while treating the building gently. We lift floorboards and use existing voids rather than chasing solid granite where we can, plan every cable run before the first board comes up, and reinstate neatly where chasing cannot be avoided.
A partial rewire of one floor is typically £2,500 to £5,000 + VAT, with a full rewire of a larger detached Culter home running £7,000 to £14,000+ + VAT depending on size and making good. Not sure if yours is due? Our guide to the top 10 signs you need a rewire is a sensible first read, then call 07304 027013.

Plenty of homes in the village core and the post war streets of Peterculter still run on an old rewirable fuse board, or a split load unit with shared RCDs. Upgrading to a modern full RCBO consumer unit is the single most worthwhile electrical job most Culter homeowners can do. Every circuit gets its own protection, so a fault on one trips that circuit alone and the rest of the house stays live. No more whole house blackout because of one faulty appliance.
A typical 100A domestic consumer unit upgrade is £550 to £800 + VAT, or £750 to £1,000 + VAT bundled with an EV charger. See our consumer unit replacement page for what a modern board includes.
Peterculter is a commuter suburb, and the modern estates on its edges tend to have exactly what makes home charging easy, off road parking and a driveway. We survey the supply, plan a tidy cable route from the board to the parking spot, and fit a unit that suits the house. On a newer estate home that is usually a clean, straightforward run. On a granite property in the village core it means routing through voids rather than surface trunking across a period frontage.
Cable runs beyond 15 metres, earthing upgrades and any board work are quoted as extras after the survey, so the starting price stays honest. Read more on our EV charger installer page or the dedicated EV charger in Peterculter page.

An Electrical Installation Condition Report is the health check on a home's wiring. In Peterculter it comes up most around a sale or purchase, before a renovation of an older cottage, or as a five yearly check on an established home. We test every circuit, code each finding C1, C2, C3 or FI, and issue a clear digital certificate. If you let the property, an EICR every five years is a legal duty under Scotland's Repairing Standard.
EICRs in Peterculter start from £150 + VAT, with larger detached homes toward the upper end. On the newer estates we also handle the smart heating, lighting and integrated systems people increasingly want, wired in so they actually work, plus everyday socket, switch and fault finding work at £55 to £75 per hour + VAT.
For the dedicated local service see our EICR in Peterculter page, or our electrician in Cults page for the neighbouring stretch of Deeside.
Anyone can call themselves an electrician. The work we sign off in Peterculter is backed by Steven Watt's individual City and Guilds qualifications, held on top of our NICEIC approved contractor status. They are separate things. NICEIC is a scheme membership, the City and Guilds awards are personal qualifications.

Peterculter sits in the Aberdeen City council area, in the Lower Deeside ward, with the AB14 postcode. Some directories mislabel it as Aberdeenshire because of how the Deeside suburbs sprawl west, but administratively it is Aberdeen City. Either way, it is well within our patch and there is no travel surcharge for AB14 addresses.
Yes, this is the core of our older property work in Culter. We plan cable runs before we start, lift floorboards and use existing voids rather than chasing solid granite wherever possible, and reinstate carefully where we cannot avoid it. A partial rewire of one floor is typically £2,500 to £5,000 + VAT, and a full rewire of a larger detached home runs £7,000 to £14,000+ + VAT depending on size and making good.
For most older Peterculter homes, yes. An old rewirable fuse board or a split load unit gives you far less protection than a modern full RCBO consumer unit, where every circuit is protected on its own. A fault then trips only that circuit instead of blacking out the whole house. A typical 100A upgrade is £550 to £800 + VAT, and we check the main bonding at the same time, which is often missing in older Culter stock.
Yes, and the off road parking on the newer Culter estates makes home charging straightforward. We survey the supply, plan a tidy cable route, and fit a smart, solar ready charger from £900 + VAT for a run up to 15 metres. On a granite property in the village core we route through voids to keep period frontages tidy. Longer runs and any board work are quoted as honest extras after the survey.
Yes. We work right along the A93 North Deeside Road, covering Peterculter, Milltimber, Bieldside and Cults, plus Maryculter just across the River Dee to the south. There is no travel surcharge for these Deeside addresses. If you are right on the edge of the village, call 07304 027013 and we will confirm.
There is no legal duty to hold an EICR purely to sell an owner occupied home, but buyers and surveyors increasingly ask for one, and it is a sensible check before a sale or a renovation of an older cottage. If you let the property, an EICR every five years is a legal duty under Scotland's Repairing Standard. EICRs in Peterculter start from £150 + VAT, with larger detached homes toward the upper end.
