What an electrician costs in Aberdeenshire
Our own 2026 rates for work anywhere in the shire. They are the same in Huntly as in Ellon. The only thing that can change with distance is a travel charge on the remotest addresses, and that is agreed before we book.
How much does an electrician cost in Scotland?
It depends on the job, and you get a clear price from us before any work starts. A domestic EICR starts at £150 + VAT and a consumer unit upgrade is £550 to £950 + VAT. Prices elsewhere in Scotland vary, so when you compare quotes, check whether VAT is shown and what the price covers.
When is it a fixed price?
Repairs and small jobs that cannot be scoped until we are on site are priced once we know what they are, before we start. Anything we can survey first gets a fixed price: a board change, a rewire, an EV charger, a submain to an outbuilding. A fixed price stays fixed, and any new fault found part way through is quoted before we touch it.

Rural Aberdeenshire
Farm, steading and rural electrics in Aberdeenshire
A rural Aberdeenshire property is wired differently from a house in town, and the difference shows up the moment you add load. These are the things we check first on farms, steadings and country homes.
- TT earthing. Where an overhead supply arrives with no earth from the network, the property relies on its own earth electrode. Fault protection then leans on RCDs, so we test the electrode, the bonding and the RCDs together rather than one at a time.
- Long runs to outbuildings. A garage, workshop or steading fed from the house needs armoured cable sized for the distance, proper isolation at both ends and its own board.
- Three phase supplies. Workshop machinery, grain handling and ventilation often run on three phase, and so do many commercial units around the Buchan towns.
- Agricultural locations. BS 7671 Section 705 adds requirements for livestock buildings and other agricultural premises, covering things like damp, dust and fire risk. Farm wiring has to meet it.
- Supply capacity. An EV charger, an electric shower or a heat pump on a long rural line needs the available capacity checked before anything is ordered. Load management often solves it. Where the supply itself must be upgraded, that is an application to SSEN, the network operator for the north of Scotland, and we tell you so at survey.
We quote rural jobs after a site visit, because the run lengths and the earthing arrangement decide the price. Tell us what you want to add and we will tell you what the supply can take.
Power off? Who to call
- The whole street is dark
- That is a network fault. Call 105, free from any phone, to reach SSEN. The network is theirs up to and including your service cut out.
- Only your property is off
- If the neighbours have power, or your RCD will not stay reset, the fault is inside your installation, and that is our job.
- Something is burning or sparking
- Switch off at the consumer unit if it is safe to do so, then call 07304 027013. We aim to attend genuine safety problems the same day within opening hours.
Before you book anyone
Registered, approved and competent: what each one means in Scotland
Three questions people in Aberdeenshire ask before they let an electrician into the house, answered with the source for each.
Is there a list of registered electricians?
Not one single government list, because electricians in the UK are not licensed by law. Registration is voluntary and runs through schemes. The Electrical Safety First registered electrician search covers the schemes the Scottish Government recognises, and the NICEIC tradesperson search lists its own contractors. You will find us on NICEIC under enrolment 620239, and on TrustMark under licence 4205123.
What is the difference between an electrician and an approved electrician?
In Scotland, Approved Electrician is an industry grade above Electrician, shown on the electrician's ECS card and earned through further qualifications and experience. The Scottish Government's landlord guidance uses it as the bar for an electrician working outside a registration scheme. Separately, a firm can be an NICEIC Approved Contractor, which means the business and its work are assessed against BS 7671 every year. That is the registration Faithful Spark Electricians Ltd holds.
Who can carry out an EICR in Scotland?
A skilled person competent in inspection and testing. For a private let, the Scottish Government's Repairing Standard guidance (Annex D3, D.61 and D.62) accepts an electrician employed by a firm in a recognised registration scheme, such as NICEIC or NAPIT, as evidence of competence. Anyone else has to confirm a competence checklist. The individual qualification to ask for is City and Guilds 2391-52, which Steven holds.

Scotland, not England
The rules for electrical work in Aberdeenshire
Plenty of advice online is written for England. In Aberdeenshire four points decide what your job involves.
- Part P does not apply here. It is an England and Wales building regulation. Work in Aberdeenshire sits under the Scottish building standards instead.
- Warrants come from Aberdeenshire Council. Rewiring an existing house of up to two storeys does not need a building warrant. A rewire in a flat or maisonette, or in a building of three storeys or more, does, and the owner applies. We tell you at survey whether yours needs one.
- Landlords inspect every five years. A private let needs an electrical safety inspection, meaning an EICR plus PAT testing of the appliances you supply, at least every five years.
- EICR codes changed in 2026. On a report issued under BS 7671:2018+A4:2026, only C1 and C2 make the result unsatisfactory. C3 and FI, where further investigation is advised, are advisory, though an FI in a rented home should still be looked into promptly.
Every job we carry out in the shire is certified to Amendment 4:2026, and any warrant requirement is written on the quote.

Do you charge extra for travel in rural Aberdeenshire?
