Oldmeldrum is one of the clearest growth stories in the Garioch. Around the historic Square, the granite planned town and its Victorian villas sit largely as they have for a century, with Glen Garioch, one of Scotland's oldest working distilleries, still at its heart. The Local Picture

Most firms that turn up for the term "electrician Oldmeldrum" are based in Peterhead, Ellon or Aberdeen and run the same page for a dozen towns with the postcode swapped in. What they miss is that Oldmeldrum is really two towns wired very differently, and the job depends on which one you live in.

The new build and commuter estates. Chapel Park, Coutens, the homes off Distillery Road and the 1980s to 2000s streets around them are full of households that commute to Aberdeen, helped now by the Park and Ride being brought forward for the town. These houses are sound, but they were rarely built with today's demands in mind. What they want is a driveway EV charger, more sockets for home working, a garden room or home office supply, smart lighting, and an EICR when the house is bought or sold in what is a busy Garioch market.

An EICR is a full check of a property's fixed wiring, written up with each finding coded from C1, danger present, down to C3, improvement recommended. In Oldmeldrum we do them for three reasons above all.

Buying or selling. The Garioch market moves quickly and buyers of older stock increasingly ask for a recent EICR. It is not a legal requirement to sell, but it settles the electrical question before it holds up a sale.
Letting. A private rented home in Scotland needs a valid EICR at least every five years under the Repairing Standard. Commuter towns like this one have a healthy rental market, and we keep landlords right on the timing and the paperwork.
Peace of mind. If you have just moved into an older cottage, or you have never had the wiring checked, an EICR tells you the real condition rather than leaving you guessing.

Do I need Part P approval in Scotland?

No. Part P is part of the Building Regulations for England and Wales and does not apply in Scotland. Scotland has its own building standards system, and a registered electrician certifies the work to BS 7671. Be wary of any firm offering you a Part P certificate in Scotland, because it is the wrong scheme. You should always receive a proper certificate for the work.
