EV Charger Installation in Danestone from £900 + VAT

We fit 7.4kW smart chargers to Danestone houses from £900 + VAT, and that figure already pays for the first 15 metres of cable, a new circuit of its own, telling SSEN about the load and certifying the work. Book a free survey and expect a written figure within one working day: ring 07304 027013.

Most Danestone home chargers we fit come to £900 to £1,300 + VAT, because the estate was planned with private drives and the cable run from the board to the parking space is normally short. As an OZEV authorised and NICEIC approved contractor, our team handles the whole job: survey, new circuit protected to BS 7671:2018+A4:2026, the SSEN paperwork and setting up the app.

Danestone is part of Bridge of Don, on the north bank of the Don inside Aberdeen City, and we travel there from our base at 17 Thomson Road, Peterhead. If your street carries a travel charge, it is on the quote from the start. For other work in the house, from extra sockets to fault finding, visit our electrician in Danestone page. You can reach us weekdays 8am to 6pm, and 9am to 1pm on Saturdays, on 07304 027013.

How much does it cost to install an EV charger in Danestone?

From £900 + VAT for a standard install, with the Smart and Premium packages above that. The free survey settles what a postcode cannot: the condition of your board, the earthing arrangement and the exact cable route.

Under the Electric Vehicle (Smart Charge Points) Regulations 2021, any home charger installed in Great Britain from 30 June 2022 onwards must be smart. Each of the four models we fit can also use spare solar power if panels go on the roof later. Our guide to EV charger installation cost in Scotland explains the national picture.

Why Danestone quotes tend to stay low

Houses here were built with their own drive or a garage, so the charger usually goes on a gable or garage wall a few steps from where the car sits. When the consumer unit is in a garage or a cupboard on that same side, the cable stays well inside the 15 metres already in the price.

What can add to the figure

  • Board at the far end of the house. The route then runs through the loft, under a floor or round the outside.
  • A garage set apart from the house. A buried feed is measured and priced on the survey.
  • A board with no free way or no RCD. It needs work before the charger goes on.
  • Earthing. Certain supplies call for an electrode or extra PEN protection; see the Amendment 4 section.
Danestone homes

Fitting a charger to a Danestone house

Danestone was laid out on farmland from 1984, beginning with streets such as Fairview Street, with Wallacebrae and Jesmond following. The houses are detached homes, semis and bungalows in brick and render rather than granite, and almost all have off street parking. That is a good starting point for a home charger.

Gable end, garage or beside the door

We mount the unit on the wall closest to where you park, so the charging lead reaches the socket on the car without stretching across the drive. A garage that is part of the house often lets the supply run inside and come out directly behind the charger.

Bungalows and loft routes

On a bungalow with the board at the opposite end, the neatest route is often through the loft and down the outside wall in trunking. We show you the route before we quote, so the finish is agreed in advance.

Forty year old wiring

The first houses are now around forty years old, and many still have their original consumer unit. That is the part we look at hardest. What we do: test the board and earthing on the survey and put any work it needs into one written price. Call 07304 027013 to arrange it.

Three photos can get you a Danestone price

Photograph your fuse board, your electricity meter and the place you park, and send them with your postcode. For a straightforward house we can often give you a written figure from those alone.

Board and supply

Can a Danestone fuse board take an EV charger?

Often, yes. Where the board has a spare way and RCD protection, the charger gets its own protective device in it, or a small dedicated EV unit like the one pictured goes on the wall alongside.

Houses from the late 1980s commonly have a split load board, with half the circuits behind one RCD and half on the main switch. That layout can still feed a charger once it is tested. A board with rewireable fuses, no free way or failing test results needs replacing first, which costs £750 to £1,000 + VAT when it is done on the same visit as the charger.

Sharing one supply

A 7.4kW charger draws around 32A for hours at a time. On a house that also runs an electric shower and an oven, we check the main fuse rating at the survey. Where the combined load could get close to it, load management uses a sensor on the incoming cable to slow the car's charging while the house is busy, then lets it speed up again. Our Premium package includes load management.

Need the board only? See consumer unit upgrade in Aberdeen. Our guide does your consumer unit need upgrading for an EV charger explains how we decide.

Picking an installer

Can a normal electrician install an EV charger?

Yes, the law lets any competent electrician fit one in Danestone. The differences show up in three places: grant claims, design to the EV section of BS 7671, and the network notification.

Only OZEV installers claim grants

Chargepoint grants are paid through authorised installers, and our authorisation is EVHS/WCS14254. If you qualify, the grant comes straight off our invoice.

Section 722 of BS 7671

The wiring regulations treat a charging circuit as a special location. Our team is led by Steven Watt, qualified to City and Guilds 2921-34 in EV charging installation.

SSEN is told every time

A charger is a big new load, so SSEN, the network operator for Aberdeen, has to be notified. Now and then it asks to assess the supply first. We submit the notification and keep you informed.

Check us before you book

Look us up on the NICEIC register (620239), TrustMark (4205123) and the OZEV installer list. Tesla and Evec have approved us for their chargers, every circuit we add is certified to BS 7671:2018+A4:2026, and £2M public liability cover is in place.

Weighing up another quote?

Ask for three answers in writing: what protects the charger if the supply neutral is lost, how 6mA DC fault current is detected, and who notifies SSEN. Then phone 07304 027013 and we will price exactly the same scope.

BS 7671:2018+A4:2026

What Amendment 4 means for a Danestone charger

Published on 15 April 2026, Amendment 4 replaces the previous edition for all new certificates from 15 October 2026. For a Danestone charger, four rules change the job.

  • PME supplies. Regulation 722.411.4.1 drops the old get out of declaring an earth rod impractical. Protection must now come from an earth electrode, from automatic disconnection inside 5 seconds on loss of the PEN conductor, or from monitoring that cuts the supply under 207V or over 253V.
  • TT supplies. Rod resistance and RCD operating times are tested, and any rod outside limits is renewed before we energise the charger.
  • DC fault protection. Either a Type B RCD protects the circuit, or a Type A RCD is paired with a charger that detects 6mA DC internally to BS IEC 62955.
  • AFDD not required. Amendment 4 leaves EV charging circuits out of the arc fault detection requirement.

What we do: identify your earthing at the survey and include the right protection in the fixed price, so nothing changes on the day. Unsure which supply you have? Call 07304 027013.

Which charger

Choosing the right home charger in Danestone

Two questions decide it: are you on a cheap overnight electricity tariff, and might you add solar panels? The answers point to a package more reliably than any brand name.

On an off peak tariff

Go for an Ohme Home Pro or TeltoCharge in our Smart package (from £995 + VAT). The app lines up charging with the cheapest hours on your tariff.

Solar now or later

A myenergi Zappi or Hypervolt Home 3 Pro, in our Premium package (from £1,195 + VAT), sends spare solar generation to the car instead of exporting it.

Tesla or Evec

Tesla and Evec both list us as approved to install their EV chargers. A Wall Connector or Evec charger goes in exactly as the maker specifies, priced after the survey.

Two electric cars in the household? A single scheduled charger often covers both overnight. Where it does not, a second unit with load management can share the supply once we have confirmed the main fuse. Call 07304 027013.

Is there a government grant for an EV charger in Danestone?

Not for most Danestone owners. Nearly every house here has its own drive, and an owner occupier with a drive cannot claim. OZEV's grants run until 31 March 2027 and help the groups below.

Renters and flat owners

OZEV pays 75% towards supplying and fitting the socket, capped at £500. The conditions: a private parking space you are allowed to use, written consent from your landlord or freeholder, and an approved claim before installation day.

Landlords

A separate landlord scheme pays up to £500 a socket, with a ceiling of 200 sockets in total.

Homeowners with a drive

The household grant excludes you. The Scottish home charge point funding through Home Energy Scotland also showed as closed on 6 October 2026, which is why every Danestone price on this page is before any grant.

No off street parking

Aberdeen City Council's EV charging FAQ currently says a charging cable cannot run across a public pavement, so check with the council first. What does work is a charger at a private bay that is yours to use, with the landowner's agreement.

Public charging in Danestone

Public chargers in Danestone, or a charger on your drive?

Danestone has a rapid charging site and a council socket. Both help when you need a top up away from home. For everyday miles, a charger on your own wall costs less to plan around and is ready the moment you get in.

InstaVolt at Laurel Drive

InstaVolt's own page lists its Danestone hub at Bannatyne Health Club and Spa, Laurel Drive, AB22 8AQ, just off the A92, with two 50kW rapid chargers offering CCS and CHAdeMO connectors (read 6 October 2026). Check the InstaVolt app for live status and pricing.

Danestone Community Centre car park

Aberdeen City Council's charger locations page lists one public socket in the Danestone Community Centre car park, AB22 8ZP. The council is moving its chargers from ChargePlace Scotland to the EZO network, with new prices and stay limits, so check the EZO app or Zapmap before you go.

What is the 80/20 rule for EV charging?

For daily driving, keep the battery between about 20% and 80%, and fill to 100% only before a long journey. Lithium batteries usually age more slowly away from the extremes, and rapid chargers slow sharply above 80%. Some cars are designed to charge to full, so your handbook has the last word.

Why home charging still wins

A 7.4kW home charger adds about 7kWh for every hour plugged in, so one overnight session on an off peak rate is enough for most daily commutes. At handover we set the charge limit and timer with you. Call 07304 027013 for your Danestone price.

How it works

Your Danestone EV charger installation, start to finish

  1. Free survey. On site or from your photos: board, earthing, wall position and cable route.
  2. Fixed written price. Usually within one working day, with VAT and any extras listed separately.
  3. SSEN notification. We submit it and tell you if the network operator wants to check the supply.
  4. Installation. A few hours on most houses; your electricity is off just for the final connection.
  5. Handover. You get the certificate and results, and we link the app and set your charging hours.

We cover all of Danestone, from Fairview and Wallacebrae to Jesmond and the streets around Laurel Drive. Once you accept, a standard install normally goes in the diary 5 to 10 working days out, or later if SSEN wants to look at the supply.

Danestone EV charger FAQs

Questions about EV chargers in Danestone

Have a different question? Call 07304 027013 or send us a message and expect an answer within one working day.

How much does an EV charger installation cost in Danestone?

Expect £900 to £1,300 + VAT for a 7.4kW smart charger on a typical Danestone house. That price pays for the first 15 metres of cable, a new circuit with the earthing and DC fault protection Amendment 4 asks for, notifying SSEN, testing and certification. Our Smart package starts at £995 + VAT and Premium at £1,195 + VAT. If the board has to be replaced on the same visit, add £750 to £1,000 + VAT.

Can a normal electrician install an EV charger?

Yes. No special licence is needed to fit one, but the work must meet Section 722 of BS 7671, the network operator (SSEN here) must be told, and a grant can only be claimed by an OZEV authorised installer. We hold OZEV authorisation EVHS/WCS14254 and NICEIC approval 620239, and our team leader Steven Watt is qualified to City and Guilds 2921-34 in EV charging installation.

Is there a government grant for an EV charger in Danestone?

Owner occupiers with their own drive cannot claim. If you rent, or own a flat with private parking, OZEV pays 75% of the cost up to £500 until 31 March 2027, provided the claim is approved before we start. Landlords have their own scheme at up to £500 a socket. The Home Energy Scotland charge point fund showed as closed on 6 October 2026.

What is the 80/20 rule for EV charging?

It is a rule of thumb: charge to about 80% and try not to run below about 20% in normal use, saving a full 100% charge for long journeys. Keeping a battery out of the extremes is generally kinder to it, and rapid charging tapers off steeply past 80%. Where the manufacturer recommends charging to full, do what the handbook says.

Where can I charge an electric car in Danestone?

InstaVolt lists two 50kW rapid chargers at Bannatyne Health Club and Spa, Laurel Drive, AB22 8AQ, just off the A92. Aberdeen City Council lists one public socket in the Danestone Community Centre car park, AB22 8ZP, which is moving to the EZO network. Operators set the prices and stay limits, so check their apps or Zapmap before you go.

Will my Danestone fuse board need replacing for a charger?

Often not. If there is a free way and RCD protection, the charger circuit can go into it, or a compact EV unit is mounted next to it. Split load boards from the 1980s are frequently fine once tested. Rewireable fuses, a full board or failed test results mean a replacement, at £750 to £1,000 + VAT when combined with the charger.

I have no driveway in Danestone. Can I charge at home?

Aberdeen City Council's EV charging FAQ currently says a charging cable cannot run across a public pavement, so check with the council first. Home charging then depends on having a private bay you are entitled to use, such as an allocated space in a private car park, with the owner's written agreement. In that case the OZEV grant may help with the cost.

Do you install Tesla chargers in Danestone?

We do. Tesla and Evec have both approved us to install their EV chargers, so a Tesla Wall Connector or Evec unit is installed to the maker's specification. Because the cost depends on the route and the state of your board, the price follows the free survey.

How long does a home EV charger installation take?

Most installs take a few hours, and you lose power only for the final connection of the new circuit. After you accept the quote, a standard job is usually scheduled 5 to 10 working days ahead. If SSEN needs to review your supply first, we tell you at the survey.
