Who installs EV chargers in Fraserburgh?
Faithful Spark Electricians installs EV chargers across Fraserburgh and the AB43 area. We are an OZEV authorised installer, reference EVHS/WCS14254, a NICEIC Approved Contractor, enrolment 620239, and a Tesla and Evec approved installer. Steven Watt holds City and Guilds 2921-34, the Level 3 electric vehicle charging award. A smart 7.4kW charger is from £900 + VAT fully installed, and we handle the SSEN notification for you.
How much does an EV charger cost in Fraserburgh?
A 7.4kW smart charger is from £900 + VAT fully installed. An Ohme Home Pro or TeltoCharge is from £995 + VAT, and a Hypervolt Home 3 Pro or myenergi Zappi is from £1,195 + VAT. A typical single phase home install comes to about £1,500 + VAT. Seafront addresses take an IP65 coastal grade enclosure and marine grade stainless fixings, which is a modest material premium on top. Every quote is in writing before any work starts.
Why do EV chargers corrode faster in Fraserburgh than inland?
The Broch sits right on the North Sea. Salt carried on the wind, and spray on seafront and harbour facing streets, settles on the enclosure, cable glands, terminals and fixings, and corrodes an under specified unit far faster than an inland install. We see bargain low IP chargers fail early at Sandhaven, Rosehearty and Inverallochy. The fix is specifying the install for the coast from the start.
What IP rating does my charger need this close to the sea?
Every AB43 install we do is a minimum IP54 enclosure with sealed cable glands. Within roughly 200 metres of the seafront, or on a property facing the harbour, we fit IP65 or higher and use marine grade stainless fixings rather than zinc plated, sealed with neutral cure silicone. It is a small material premium for a dramatically longer service life.
I live on Broad Street with no driveway. Can I still get a home charger?
Sometimes, but not always, and we will tell you honestly. Where there is no off street parking, the options are a cross pavement cable channel, which needs an Aberdeenshire Council pavement permit, the public ChargePlace Scotland chargers around town including the Saltoun Square car park, or waiting until a suitable solution fits your property. We will not sell you a charger you cannot safely use.
Do I qualify for the £500 EV charger grant?
Precisely: the grant, up to £500 per socket and funded to 31 March 2027, is for renters, flat owners and leaseholders who have their own private off street parking, not for owner occupiers with a driveway, who have not been eligible since 2022. A separate strand, also up to £500, exists for households with only on street parking installing an approved cross pavement solution. We apply on your behalf where you qualify.
Does it have to be a 7.4kW smart charger?
Yes. The smart charging regulations require home chargepoints to be smart, able to schedule and respond to the grid, and 7.4kW single phase is the standard domestic rate. Every unit we fit, Ohme, Zappi, Hypervolt and other approved brands, meets this.
Do you notify the network before installing?
Yes. We handle the notification with the operator, SSEN: a G98 notification for a standard 7.4kW single phase charger, or a G99 application where a larger or three phase load needs prior approval. You do not deal with the network yourself.
Can you pair the charger with solar or a smart tariff?
Yes. A Zappi diverts surplus solar into the car, and units like the Ohme Home Pro and Hypervolt integrate with smart tariffs such as Octopus Intelligent for cheap overnight charging. We also set up load management so the charger and the house share the supply safely. See our Fraserburgh solar panel installation page if you are pairing the two.
Do you install for fish processing units and fleets at the harbour?
Yes. Three phase and larger commercial units at South Harbour Road, Maconochie Road and the Fraserburgh Industrial Estate, with the Workplace Charging Scheme, up to £500 per socket, where the business qualifies. These harbour front sites are the most salt exposed of all, so coastal grade enclosures are standard.
