AB43 · Fraserburgh, the Broch & the Buchan coast · OZEV & NICEIC approved

EV charger installer in Fraserburgh, OZEV approved and specified for the Broch coast.

A charger on the far north east coast has to cope with something an inland install never does: salt. On this exposed North Sea seafront the salt in the air eats an under specified unit far faster than it would in Ellon or Aberdeen. So we specify every AB43 install for the coast, higher IP ratings near the sea, marine grade fixings, sealed glands. And where a granite street has no driveway, we give you the honest answer rather than a box you cannot use. Smart 7.4kW charger, fully installed, from £900 + VAT.

Faithful Spark Electricians is an OZEV authorised and NICEIC approved EV charger installer covering Fraserburgh and the AB43 postcode area. We are also a Tesla approved and Evec approved installer. Steven Watt holds City and Guilds 2921-34, the Level 3 award in electric vehicle charging installation, and every install is certified to BS 7671.

A smart 7.4kW home charger is from £900 + VAT fully installed, and a typical single phase home install comes to about £1,500 + VAT. We handle the SSEN network notification for you, and because Fraserburgh sits directly on the North Sea we specify every AB43 install for salt air: minimum IP54, IP65 or higher within roughly 200 metres of the seafront, and marine grade stainless fixings throughout.

We cover Fraserburgh, Rosehearty, Sandhaven, Pittulie, St Combs, Inverallochy, Cairnbulg, New Aberdour, Strichen, Memsie and Lonmay, for homes, harbour businesses and fleets.

The Coast

Why a charger corrodes faster on the Fraserburgh coast.

The Broch sits right on the North Sea, and that changes what an outdoor charger has to survive. Salt carried on the wind, and spray on the seafront and harbour facing streets, settles on the enclosure, the cable glands, the terminals and the fixings, and corrodes an under specified unit far faster than the same install would inland. The same unit on an EV charger installation in Aberdeen would be specified differently.

We see it all the time on the coast: a bargain low IP charger fitted a couple of winters ago, already pitting at the seals and weeping rust from the fixings at Sandhaven, Rosehearty and Inverallochy. The unit still works, until the day it does not, and by then the damage is done. The honest fix is not a cheaper box and a repair every spring, it is specifying the install for the coast from the very start.

The Spec

How we specify a charger for salt air.

This is the difference no other installer puts on the page, and it is a small material premium for a dramatically longer service life.

  • A minimum IP54 enclosure on every AB43 install, with sealed cable glands so wind driven rain and salt stay out.
  • IP65 or higher within about 200 metres of the seafront, or on any property facing the harbour, where the exposure is worst.
  • Marine grade stainless fixings, not the zinc plated ones that rust solid, sealed with neutral cure silicone.
  • Sensible siting, tucking the unit away from the worst of the prevailing spray where the layout allows.

On brands, the myenergi Zappi and Hypervolt Home 3 Pro are IP65 rated, and the Ohme Home Pro is IP54, so we match the unit and the enclosure to how exposed your property actually is. We wrote up the unit in detail in our Ohme Home Pro review for Scotland. It is the sort of thing you only appreciate when your charger is still solid five winters on. If you are still deciding, our guide on how to choose the right EV charger for your home compares the main units side by side.

The Process

Five steps from first call to first charge in the Broch.

The same documented process whether it is one charger on a Rosehearty driveway or six on a South Harbour Road yard.

01

Free site survey

Call, WhatsApp or use the form. Phone, photo or onsite survey. Tell us how close you are to the sea and where you park, because on this coast that decides the enclosure grade. If the existing installation is old we will flag whether it needs an EICR in Fraserburgh first. No travel fee across AB43.

02

Network notification

We notify SSEN of the new load for you. A G98 notification for a standard 7.4kW single phase charger, or a G99 application where a larger or three phase load needs prior approval. You never deal with the network company.

03

Written quote

Fixed price in writing within 48 hours, valid 30 days. VAT shown separately. The quote covers the cable route, the enclosure grade for your exposure, and any consumer unit upgrade needed.

04

Install day

A typical Fraserburgh home install takes 3 to 4 hours. Dust sheets down, coastal grade enclosure, marine grade stainless fixings, sealed glands, BS 7671 compliant RCD protection, full commissioning test before we leave.

05

Handover and certificate

We pair the charger to your phone, run the first charge with you watching, and hand over the NICEIC certificate. Three year workmanship warranty alongside the manufacturer cover.

The Honest Counterpoint

No driveway? Charging the Broch's granite terraces.

A lot of the old town, Broad Street, Mid Street, High Street, Frithside Street and around Saltoun Square, is dense granite with no off street parking, and a home charger needs somewhere off the road to sit. So we will be straight with you. Where there is no driveway, the options are a cross pavement cable channel, which needs a pavement permit from Aberdeenshire Council, the public ChargePlace Scotland chargers around town including the Saltoun Square car park, or simply that a home charger is not the right fit for your property yet. We will not sell you a unit you cannot use safely or legally, and trailing a cable across a public pavement is not the answer. On the peripheral estates and out in the villages, where driveways are the norm, it is a different and far simpler story. For anything else electrical in the town, see our Fraserburgh electrician page.

Smart By Law

The charger, the tariff and the grid.

Smart is the law. Every new home charger has to be a smart 7.4kW unit, able to schedule charging and respond to the grid, and every unit we fit meets that. We set up load management so the charger and the house share the supply safely, and the smart units pair with a cheap overnight tariff such as Octopus Intelligent. If you have solar, a Zappi diverts your surplus into the car, which is why we often quote a charger alongside solar panel installation in Fraserburgh or battery storage. We handle the network notification with the operator, SSEN, so you never deal with the grid company yourself. Every charger is fitted by an OZEV authorised, NICEIC approved installer.

Grants, Honestly

Who really gets money toward a charger.

First the honest part: if you own your house and have a driveway, there is no grant, and there has not been since 2022. The £500 per socket grant, funded to 31 March 2027, is for renters and for flat owners and leaseholders who have their own private off street parking, covering 75% of the cost up to that cap. There is a separate strand, also up to £500, for on street only households fitting an approved cross pavement solution. As an OZEV authorised installer, reference EVHS/WCS14254, we apply on your behalf where you qualify. For a harbour business, the Workplace Charging Scheme gives up to £500 per socket, on up to 40 sockets, and it runs to 31 March 2027.

"Steven arrived on the day promised, fitted the Zappi neatly, sorted the cable run through the garage wall properly, and set up the app before he left. The whole job took half a day and he walked us through how solar surplus would work once we add panels later. Faultless service."

"Steven the electrician came to our flat last minute in the middle of a very cold start to winter to fix our broken heaters. He walked us through everything he was checking, explained what he found and was incredibly thorough the whole time. Best part? He fixed the issue right then and there in the same appointment."

FAQs

EV charging in the Broch, your questions.

Who installs EV chargers in Fraserburgh?

Faithful Spark Electricians installs EV chargers across Fraserburgh and the AB43 area. We are an OZEV authorised installer, reference EVHS/WCS14254, a NICEIC Approved Contractor, enrolment 620239, and a Tesla and Evec approved installer. Steven Watt holds City and Guilds 2921-34, the Level 3 electric vehicle charging award. A smart 7.4kW charger is from £900 + VAT fully installed, and we handle the SSEN notification for you.

How much does an EV charger cost in Fraserburgh?

A 7.4kW smart charger is from £900 + VAT fully installed. An Ohme Home Pro or TeltoCharge is from £995 + VAT, and a Hypervolt Home 3 Pro or myenergi Zappi is from £1,195 + VAT. A typical single phase home install comes to about £1,500 + VAT. Seafront addresses take an IP65 coastal grade enclosure and marine grade stainless fixings, which is a modest material premium on top. Every quote is in writing before any work starts.

Why do EV chargers corrode faster in Fraserburgh than inland?

The Broch sits right on the North Sea. Salt carried on the wind, and spray on seafront and harbour facing streets, settles on the enclosure, cable glands, terminals and fixings, and corrodes an under specified unit far faster than an inland install. We see bargain low IP chargers fail early at Sandhaven, Rosehearty and Inverallochy. The fix is specifying the install for the coast from the start.

What IP rating does my charger need this close to the sea?

Every AB43 install we do is a minimum IP54 enclosure with sealed cable glands. Within roughly 200 metres of the seafront, or on a property facing the harbour, we fit IP65 or higher and use marine grade stainless fixings rather than zinc plated, sealed with neutral cure silicone. It is a small material premium for a dramatically longer service life.

I live on Broad Street with no driveway. Can I still get a home charger?

Sometimes, but not always, and we will tell you honestly. Where there is no off street parking, the options are a cross pavement cable channel, which needs an Aberdeenshire Council pavement permit, the public ChargePlace Scotland chargers around town including the Saltoun Square car park, or waiting until a suitable solution fits your property. We will not sell you a charger you cannot safely use.

Do I qualify for the £500 EV charger grant?

Precisely: the grant, up to £500 per socket and funded to 31 March 2027, is for renters, flat owners and leaseholders who have their own private off street parking, not for owner occupiers with a driveway, who have not been eligible since 2022. A separate strand, also up to £500, exists for households with only on street parking installing an approved cross pavement solution. We apply on your behalf where you qualify.

Does it have to be a 7.4kW smart charger?

Yes. The smart charging regulations require home chargepoints to be smart, able to schedule and respond to the grid, and 7.4kW single phase is the standard domestic rate. Every unit we fit, Ohme, Zappi, Hypervolt and other approved brands, meets this.

Do you notify the network before installing?

Yes. We handle the notification with the operator, SSEN: a G98 notification for a standard 7.4kW single phase charger, or a G99 application where a larger or three phase load needs prior approval. You do not deal with the network yourself.

Can you pair the charger with solar or a smart tariff?

Yes. A Zappi diverts surplus solar into the car, and units like the Ohme Home Pro and Hypervolt integrate with smart tariffs such as Octopus Intelligent for cheap overnight charging. We also set up load management so the charger and the house share the supply safely. See our Fraserburgh solar panel installation page if you are pairing the two.

Do you install for fish processing units and fleets at the harbour?

Yes. Three phase and larger commercial units at South Harbour Road, Maconochie Road and the Fraserburgh Industrial Estate, with the Workplace Charging Scheme, up to £500 per socket, where the business qualifies. These harbour front sites are the most salt exposed of all, so coastal grade enclosures are standard.

Who wrote this

Steven Watt, Faithful Spark Electricians.

Steven is the qualified electrician who carries out the EV charger installs across Fraserburgh and the Buchan coast. He holds City and Guilds 2921-34 for electric vehicle charging installation, 2391-52 for inspection and testing, 2382-22 for BS 7671, and 2365-03 at Level 3. Faithful Spark Electricians is an OZEV authorised installer, a NICEIC Approved Contractor under enrolment 620239, a SELECT member, and a Tesla and Evec approved installer.

The coastal specification set out on this page is not marketing. It comes from replacing under specified chargers that failed early at Sandhaven, Rosehearty and Inverallochy, and from a decision to quote the correct enclosure grade from the start rather than come back every spring. The same team handles rewiring in Fraserburgh and full domestic installation work.
