1950s & 1960s Bungalows
A short, tidy cable run from the board to the drive. The main thing to check is whether an older consumer unit needs a way adding or an upgrade.
Faithful Spark Electricians fit home EV chargers across Hazlehead, from the bungalows around the park to the new builds at Countesswells, where almost every home has its own driveway. Every charger is smart, as the law requires, and solar ready so it can charge from your own panels. Ohme, TeltoCharge, Hypervolt and myenergi Zappi, fitted tidily and certified, all led personally by Steven Watt.
Hazlehead is a settled family suburb on the western edge of Aberdeen, with 1950s and 1960s bungalows and semis around the park, larger detached homes, and the new Countesswells development on its doorstep. Almost every home has off street parking, which is the single thing that makes a tidy, compliant EV charger install straightforward. We fit a smart charger, as the law now requires, that is also solar ready so it can charge the car from your own panels. On the older homes we check the board first, and on the Countesswells new builds we work with the modern supply already in place. Steven Watt leads every Hazlehead install himself.

Steven Watt holds the City and Guilds 2921-34 EV charging award, so the design and the load assessment are done properly, not guessed.
An EV charger is a simple idea with a few details that matter. Here is what every Hazlehead install includes.
We check the supply, the consumer unit, the earthing and the cable route before quoting, so the from price is honest.
Every charger we fit is smart, as the Smart Charge Points Regulations 2021 require, with scheduling and off peak charging built in.
The units we fit can charge the car from surplus solar when you add panels, so the charger grows with your setup.
Where the network operator needs notifying through the ENA process, we do it for you. No forms, no chasing SP Energy Networks.
The cable runs along the line of the house, not strung across the front. We take pride in a clean, discreet finish.
Every install is tested and certified on completion, carrying our NICEIC registration, so it is right for resale and insurance.
The driveway and the consumer unit decide how an install goes. Here is how it usually looks across the suburb.
A short, tidy cable run from the board to the drive. The main thing to check is whether an older consumer unit needs a way adding or an upgrade.
Plenty of driveway and often a modern enough board, so a dedicated RCBO protected circuit for the charger goes straight in.
Modern homes with a fresh supply, often EV ready by design. A clean, quick install, and we know the development well.
Where a solar ready charger really earns its keep. A myenergi Zappi can divert surplus solar straight into the car.
We keep it simple and predictable, and most installs are done in a single visit on the day.
We check the supply, the board, the earthing and the cable route, and confirm the right charger and a fixed price in writing.
Where the network needs notifying, we handle the DNO and ENA process for you before the install.
Steven fits the charger on a dedicated RCBO protected circuit, routes the cable neatly, and sets up the app.
The install is tested and certified to BS 7671, and you drive away charging. Most installs take a few hours.

Call 07304 027013There is a lot of loose talk about EV chargers, so here is the straight version. Smart is the legal requirement. Under the Smart Charge Points Regulations 2021, every new home charger must be smart, which means it supports scheduling, defaults to charging at off peak times, and adds a small randomised start delay to protect the grid. Every charger we fit meets this.
Solar ready is something different, and better. It is a product feature, not a legal rule, and it means the charger can take surplus power from your own solar panels and put it into the car rather than exporting it to the grid. A myenergi Zappi does this natively, and the Ohme Home Pro and Hypervolt Home 3 Pro support solar too. So do not let anyone tell you the law requires a solar ready charger. The law requires smart. We simply fit units that are both.
If you are weighing up panels too, see our solar PV and battery storage page.

You will see installers wave the EV chargepoint grant around. Here is the honest position for 2026. The grant is £500 per socket, available from 1 April 2026, and it is for renters and flat owners only, with private off street parking and the landlord or freeholder's permission. It is funded to 31 March 2027.
What that means for Hazlehead is simple. Most homes here are owner occupied bungalows and detached houses, and those owners are not eligible. We would rather tell you that up front than dangle a grant you cannot claim. If you do rent, or own a flat with a private space, the grant applies and we will handle the application for you.

The charger choice comes down to how you live, not just the badge. We will talk it through at the survey, but here is the shape of it.
All of them are smart and solar ready, and all carry a three year warranty. There is no wrong answer here, only the one that fits your driveway and your car.

An EV charger needs its own dedicated circuit, properly protected, and a supply that can carry it. On a Countesswells new build or a recently upgraded home that is no problem. On an older Hazlehead bungalow with a full or ageing consumer unit, the board sometimes needs a way adding or a full upgrade before the charger goes on. We check all of this at the free survey, so there are no surprises on install day.
Where an upgrade is needed, we quote it plainly, and we can usually do the board and the charger in the same visit. A full RCBO consumer unit is from £550, up to £950 + VAT depending on circuit count.

From £900 + VAT for a 7.4kW smart unit with a cable run up to 15 metres. The Smart package with an Ohme Home Pro or TeltoCharge is from £995 + VAT, and the Premium solar ready package with a Hypervolt Home 3 Pro or myenergi Zappi is from £1,195 + VAT. A consumer unit upgrade, if needed, is from £550 + VAT, confirmed at the free survey.
Yes, by law. The Smart Charge Points Regulations 2021 require every new home charger to be smart, which means scheduling, default off peak charging and a small randomised start delay. There is no compliant non smart unit for a new install, and every charger we fit meets the rule.
Not always. A Countesswells new build is usually ready as it stands, while an older Hazlehead bungalow may need a way adding or a board upgrade first. The charger needs its own dedicated, properly protected 32A circuit. We confirm what is needed at the free survey and can do the board and charger in one visit.
Tethered has the cable attached and is the convenient choice for a single car household. Untethered takes your own cable and suits two cars, mixed connectors, or a cleaner look when nothing is plugged in. Both charge at the same speed and both meet the smart charging rules.
Yes. The units we fit are solar ready, and a myenergi Zappi will divert surplus solar straight into the car rather than exporting it. The Ohme Home Pro and Hypervolt Home 3 Pro support solar too. Solar pairing is a product feature, not a legal requirement, and we can scope the panels and the charger together.
Yes. Where the network operator needs telling about a new charger, we handle the ENA notification process for you, so there is no separate contact with SP Energy Networks. It is part of every job, included in the price.
