You can if the car sits overnight on a space that is off the public road and that you are legally allowed to use. Northfield mixes semis with drives, terraces that face the street and four in a block flats, so the answer changes from one door to the next. Find your situation below.
This is the simplest install. The household grant does not cover owner occupied houses, so you pay the package price, which starts at £900 + VAT. Many former council semis here are now owner occupied after Right to Buy, and where one has a drive, that drive is all a charger needs.
If your home comes with a private, clearly marked space that you can reach at all times, the OZEV grant for renters and flat owners pays 75% of the socket and its fitting, up to £500. You need permission from your landlord, or from whoever owns the space and the wall, before we start.
A numbered bay in a block's car park can work once the owner or factor agrees in writing and a cable route back to your supply exists. A landlord, housing provider or property factor can also apply for the separate OZEV landlord grant to put sockets in.
Aberdeen City Council's EV charging FAQ currently says a charging cable cannot run across a public pavement, so check with the council first. OZEV does fund a cross pavement solution, but only with the highways authority's consent, so a wall box at the front door is not something we would fit here today.

Smart charging has been a legal requirement for new home chargers in Great Britain since 30 June 2022, under the Electric Vehicle (Smart Charge Points) Regulations 2021. We charge a fixed package price, so the labour, materials, testing, certificate and SSEN form are all inside the figure in the table. When you compare quotes, check whether the other price includes the circuit, the earthing protection and the paperwork.
Tenants, flat owners and landlords can, which matters in an area with this many lets and flats. OZEV's chargepoint grants are funded until 31 March 2027, and the charger must not be fitted before OZEV confirms you are eligible.
Whether you rent from the council, a housing association or a private landlord, you can apply if your home has its own private off street space. The grant is 75% of the cost up to £500, and you will need your landlord's written permission. Lodgers living in the owner's home cannot apply.
If you own and live in a flat, including shared ownership or a house converted into flats, you qualify on the same terms. The space does not have to be part of the property, but you must own it or hold the legal right to it, with proof.
The residential landlord grant pays 75%, up to £500 a socket, for up to 200 sockets a year. You must be registered at Companies House or for VAT, and a property factor in Scotland can apply too. Letting in Northfield? Pair the charger with an EICR in Northfield and we test both on one visit.
No household grant covers you. The Scottish domestic charge point fund run through Home Energy Scotland was still showing as closed on 6 October 2026, which is why our prices are shown in full.

Northfield, Cummings Park and Heathryfold were built as council housing from the late 1940s through the 1950s. Today the streets around Provost Rust Drive and Byron Avenue hold Right to Buy owners, council and housing association tenants and a large number of private lets, so we meet every kind of ownership.
The meter and the board are often on the same side as the drive. The charger goes on that wall at the height of the car's charging port, which keeps the run short.
A mid terrace that opens straight onto the pavement has no off street space, so a home charger is not possible there today. An end terrace with a side or rear space may well suit, and we look at the route before quoting.

Photograph your fuse board, your electricity meter and the space where the car sleeps, and tell us whether you own or rent. That is often enough for a written figure and a grant check before we visit.
Choose 7kW if you can, because it adds more than twice as much energy for every hour the car is plugged in, which makes one overnight session enough for most drivers. A 3kW option suits only very low mileage. The table shows energy added, which is easy to check against your own car's battery size.

This is simple arithmetic, power multiplied by time, with charging losses left out, so real figures come in a little lower. Your car also caps the speed through its own onboard charger, so check the handbook. A three pin lead is for occasional use and must never go through an extension lead or a cable reel. Plenty do. Where the board has a free way and RCD protection, the charger circuit can join it, or we fit a small dedicated EV unit next to it like the one in the photo.
Houses of this age can still have an original or early replacement board with rewireable fuses, no RCD or no room. Those normally need replacing before a charger goes on, at £750 to £1,000 + VAT when done on the same visit, and only after our test results show it is necessary.

Start with the government's list of OZEV authorised installers, then check the firm on the NICEIC or NAPIT register and on TrustMark. Only an OZEV authorised installer can process a grant. You will find us on each list under OZEV EVHS/WCS14254, NICEIC 620239 and TrustMark 4205123.
BS 7671:2018+A4:2026 came out on 15 April 2026 and becomes the only edition for new work from 15 October 2026. For an outdoor charger it changes three things worth asking any installer about.

Pick by how you pay for electricity. An overnight EV tariff points to the Smart package; panels on the roof, or planned, point to Premium.
Ohme Home Pro or TeltoCharge, from £995 + VAT. You set the cheap hours in the app once and the car charges inside them.
myenergi Zappi or Hypervolt Home 3 Pro, from £1,195 + VAT. Spare solar can top up the car rather than go back to the grid.
We are approved installers for both. A Tesla Wall Connector or an Evec unit is fitted to its maker's instructions, and the price follows the survey.
Tethered units have the lead fixed on; untethered units use your car's own cable and look neater when not in use. The charging speed is the same. Call 07304 027013 to compare.
Without off street parking, public points are the realistic answer for now. These sites were checked on 6 October 2026 against Aberdeen City Council's list of charging locations and Zapmap; we do not quote public prices, so check the operator's app for current rates.
