The boards we meet in Hazlehead homes.
The board tells us more than the house does. In Hazlehead's post-war and interwar stock we tend to meet a few generations of consumer unit, and each one changes the job.
- Rewireable fuse boards, with ceramic carriers and no RCD, which cannot take an EV circuit as they stand and need replacing first.
- First-generation single-RCD boards from the two thousands, often full, where a dedicated protected way has to be made.
- Tired enclosures that are working but past their best, where an upgrade is the sensible moment.
- Modern dual-RCD or RCBO boards in good order with a spare way, which take the charger straight on.
We do not re teach the full board mechanics here, that lives on our consumer unit page. What matters on this page is that we look before we quote.
