EV charger installation in Peterhead, home, workplace and fleet charging for the Blue Toon.

Peterhead is a working port and energy town, and that gives it an EV charging story no commuter suburb has. We fit smart home chargers on estate driveways from £900 + VAT, and we design and install workplace, fleet and three-phase charger banks for the harbour, the energy park and the businesses around them, priced per site. From a single wall box to a depot full of vans, by an NICEIC approved local installer, City and Guilds 2921-34.

Home Charging

Charging on a Peterhead driveway.

Most of the domestic work here is straightforward, because so much of Peterhead has off-street parking. The modern estates on the Buchan edges and a lot of the council-era stock at Clerkhill and Buchanhaven have a driveway right by the house, so a wall-mounted 7.4kW smart charger goes on with a short cable run and no cross-pavement issue.

The local texture is the shift patterns. Port, processing, power station and prison workers charge at all sorts of hours, which is exactly where a smart charger and a cheap overnight tariff pay off, the car charges in the small hours on the low rate and is full for the next shift. Two-car households are common too, so we future-proof for a second EV with load management where it makes sense. Smart charger, fully installed, from £900 + VAT.

  • Estate and council-era driveways, tidy short runs
  • Overnight off-peak charging around shift patterns
  • Load management and future-proofing for a second car
  • Network notification handled for you

The Peterhead Difference

Workplace, fleet and destination charging for a working port town.

This is what makes Peterhead different from any residential suburb, and it is work no other town EV page here can honestly claim. The port and energy economy generates real commercial charging demand, and we are set up for it.

  • Port and harbour businesses, fish processing, cold stores, marine engineering and harbour retail and hospitality, adding staff and visitor bays.
  • Energy park and light-industrial units, the oil and gas supply chain and the offshore wind and decommissioning operators electrifying vans and pool cars.
  • Fleet and depot charging, trades, delivery and care providers moving to electric vans that need a bank charged overnight.
  • Destination charging for hotels, attractions and larger retail providing customer bays.

These are higher-capacity installs with load management so several chargers share the incoming supply safely, priced per site and per point after a survey. We cross into the commercial side of the business for this, so see our commercial electrician page, and commercial EICR page for the fixed wire compliance on the same premises.

Power For A Bank

Three-phase charger banks and load management.

Most homes and small units run on single-phase at 230 volts, which is fine for one wall box. A fleet depot, an energy park unit or a larger workplace putting in a bank of chargers usually needs three-phase at 400 volts, which gives the capacity to run several units at once.

The piece that makes it work either way is load management. It shares the incoming supply across the chargers so a whole bank never overloads or trips the main, and on a home it lets a charger sit alongside the shower and the oven without an upgrade. Larger commercial loads are coordinated with the network operator, SSEN, through a prior application, which we handle along with the design. We survey the site, work out whether you need three-phase and how the load is managed, and quote per point rather than pretending a depot and a driveway cost the same.

The Rental Town

Charging where Peterhead rents its homes.

Peterhead has a large private rented sector housing port, processing, energy and prison workers, and that shapes EV demand too. Landlords increasingly fit a charger to make a let more attractive, and they qualify for the grant. Renters and flat owners with their own private off-street parking qualify in their own right. It is the same worker-rental economy the town runs on, applied to charging.

Grants, Honestly

Who actually qualifies in Peterhead.

For homes, the £500 per socket grant, funded to 31 March 2027, is for renters, flat owners and landlords with private off-street parking, covering up to 75% of the cost. Standard owner-occupier houses with a driveway are not eligible, and we will say so. For businesses, the Workplace Charging Scheme gives up to £350 per socket, up to 40 sockets across a company's sites. Both need an authorised installer, which we are, and we will tell you honestly whether you qualify.

Chargers & Cost

What it costs, and what we fit.

Every unit is a smart charger, as the law requires. Home prices exclude VAT and are confirmed at the free survey, and commercial work is quoted per site.

The Units We Fit

For homes, Ohme, myenergi Zappi and Hypervolt, matched to your car, tariff and property rather than one brand. For workplace and fleet, appropriate commercial units. A Zappi diverts surplus solar into the car if you have panels.

How much does it cost to install an EV charger in Peterhead?

Domestic installs start from £900 + VAT, fully installed, with a written quote after a free survey, and the final figure depends on the cable run, your consumer unit and the supply. Workplace and fleet installs are priced per site and per charge point after a survey, because multi-unit and three-phase jobs vary too much for a single figure.

Do you install workplace and fleet chargers for Peterhead businesses and the port?

Yes. We fit workplace, destination and fleet or depot charge points for harbour and energy-park units, offices and staff or visitor car parks, from single units to multi-bay banks, with load management so several chargers share the supply safely. Larger banks usually need a three-phase feed, and we survey the site and quote per point. The Workplace Charging Scheme can help businesses that qualify.

Do I need a driveway or off-street parking?

For a standard wall-mounted home charger, yes, and most modern Peterhead estate homes and much of the council-era stock have it. For harbour-front terraces and central streets without off-street parking, we look at what is genuinely possible rather than promising a cable across a public pavement.

Is a 7.4kW charger enough?

Yes. 7.4kW is the standard home unit and gives a full overnight charge for most cars. By law every home and workplace charge point sold in Great Britain must be a smart charger, with app control, scheduling and off-peak charging, and every unit we fit is smart by default.

Can I get a grant towards an EV charger?

For homes, the £500 per socket grant is for renters, flat owners and landlords with private off-street parking, not standard owner-occupier houses with a driveway. For businesses, the Workplace Charging Scheme gives up to £350 per socket, up to 40 sockets across a company's sites. Both need an authorised installer, and we will tell you honestly whether you qualify.

Do you need to tell the network operator?

We handle it. Standard single home units are a connect-and-notify job with the operator, SSEN, while larger installs and multi-unit charger banks need a prior application, which we coordinate along with the load management. Where a home also runs solar or battery storage, those generation notifications are handled too.

Which chargers do you install?

For homes we commonly fit Ohme, myenergi Zappi and Hypervolt, matched to your car, tariff and property rather than pushing one brand, and for workplace and fleet sites we fit appropriate commercial units.

Do you cover Boddam, Cruden Bay, Longside, Hatton, St Fergus and Mintlaw?

Yes, Peterhead plus the Buchan coast and inland villages, including rural crofts and outbuildings that need a weatherproof outdoor-rated install. Confirm your address on booking, and outlying jobs are often combined to keep it efficient.
