Where you park decides most of a Peterhead charger quote, more than which charger you pick. The town has three broad situations, and each has a different answer.
The newer estates around the edge of town and most post war houses have parking right beside the house. The charger goes on the nearest outside wall, usually the gable or a side passage, with the cable clipped down the wall to a weatherproof connection box. Many older stone houses in the town centre and around the harbour open straight onto the pavement. A charging cable laid across a public footway is a trip hazard, and in Peterhead the pavement belongs to the roads authority, Aberdeenshire Council, so you need the council's permission before any cable or channel goes across it. We could not confirm the council's current policy on its website while writing this page, so check with Aberdeenshire Council first. We will not fit a charger that relies on a cable over a public pavement without that permission in writing.

Peterhead has public chargers, and they are useful. For a car that sleeps at your house, a home charger on an off peak tariff is usually the simpler and cheaper routine. Here is how to compare the two honestly.
You pay your supplier's off peak rate for every kWh, and the car is full every morning without a trip anywhere. A 7.4kW charger adds roughly 7kWh for each hour it runs, so a few off peak hours covers a normal day's driving. The cost to you is the installation once, then your electricity.
Aberdeenshire Council publishes details of its public chargers on its website, and charging map apps list the others. Each operator sets its own price, and rapid chargers usually cost more per kWh than charging at home. Check the price shown on the charger or its app, then compare it with the off peak rate on your electricity bill.

Most houses in Peterhead town, from granite terraces to the newer estates, take their earth from SSEN on a PME supply. We confirm yours at survey. That matters for an outdoor charger because of one fault: if the combined neutral and earth conductor in the street breaks, metalwork on the car can rise above true earth.

A newer board with a spare way usually takes the EV circuit as it is. An older board with rewireable fuses, no RCD protection or no room left is different. Then we either replace the board or fit a small dedicated EV board beside it, like the FuseBox unit in the photo, which we installed for a Peterhead customer.

From 1 April 2026 it covers 75% of the cost of a home chargepoint, up to £500 per socket, and it is funded to 31 March 2027. It is for renters, flat owners and leaseholders with private off street parking, with the landlord's or freeholder's permission. Owners of a house with a driveway have not qualified since April 2022.
Home Energy Scotland's domestic charge point funding was closed when we checked its official page on 6 October 2026. We do not build a Peterhead quote around funding that is not open, and we will tell you if it reopens.
If you rent out a flat or house with its own space, your tenant may qualify for the UK grant with your permission. As an OZEV authorised installer we claim it and take it off the invoice, and we can supply the wording for the landlord's consent.
