Cults runs along North Deeside Road, the A93, on the north bank of the Dee. Two things shape any electrical job here: the council that handles building warrants, and the age of the house behind the granite.
Is Cults in Aberdeen or Aberdeenshire?
Cults is in Aberdeen City, with an AB15 postcode, even though it feels like a Deeside village. So when electrical work in Cults needs a building warrant, the application goes to Aberdeen City Council, not Aberdeenshire Council. Bieldside and Milltimber, further west along the A93, are in the city too.
Victorian and Edwardian granite villas

How we rewire a granite villa in Cults
A rewire in an older Cults house starts with a survey of what is already there, because many of these homes have been partly rewired at least once. We trace which circuits are original, which were added and where they cross, then plan every new cable route before a single board comes up.
- Floorboards before plaster. Lifting boards and using existing voids means far less cutting into solid granite or original lath and plaster.

Bigger houses
Two fuse boards, or more, in one Cults house
A second board is normal in a larger home that has been extended. What matters is whether the boards were planned together and whether the supply can take what you want to add next.
What we look at
Where each board is fed from, which circuits it protects, whether the RCD protection covers what it should, and how the load is shared across the house. An annexe or garden room on a long sub main gets the same checks as the main board.
Before an EV charger or hot tub
A charger, a hot tub or electric heating adds a large load for hours at a time. We check the incoming supply and the boards first, so the new circuit is designed for the house rather than squeezed into a spare way.
What the paperwork costs
An EICR starts at £150 + VAT for the main board and five circuits. Each extra circuit is £15 + VAT, and each additional board is £70 + VAT plus £15 + VAT per circuit on it, so a multi board house is priced before we arrive.

Before you book anyone
How do you find a reputable electrician in Aberdeen?
Pick one you can check in a few minutes. A reputable electrician in Aberdeen or Cults is registered with a scheme that inspects their work, insured, named on the paperwork and happy to be looked up before you book. Here is how to check any firm, us included.
Look them up on a register
Search the NICEIC Find a Tradesperson register or the NAPIT Member Search. Both schemes assess the firms they list. The business name on your quote should match the register entry.
Ask for insurance and certificates
A firm should confirm its public liability cover and tell you which certificate you will get: an Electrical Installation Certificate for new circuits or a rewire, a minor works certificate for small alterations, or an EICR for an inspection.
Check the person, then the firm
The Scottish Government's Repairing Standard guidance treats an inspector as competent when their firm belongs to an accredited scheme such as NICEIC, or when they meet a set checklist on training and insurance. Ask who will actually do your job.

Scotland, not England
The rules that apply to electrical work in Cults
Plenty of guidance online is written for England. These are the points that apply to a house in AB15.
Warrants come from Aberdeen City Council
Rewiring an existing house of one or two storeys does not need a building warrant. A flat or maisonette does, and so does a building of three storeys or more. The owner applies to Aberdeen City Council, and we write the answer for your house on the quote.
Part P does not apply
Part P belongs to the building regulations for England and Wales and has never applied in Scotland. A quote for a Cults house that cites it was written for the wrong country.
Let property needs an EICR every five years
A landlord letting a Cults house or flat needs an electrical inspection at least every five years, plus checks on any appliances supplied with the let. Selling an owner occupied home carries no such duty.
What the EICR codes mean now
Under BS 7671:2018+A4:2026 only a C1 or C2 makes an EICR unsatisfactory. C3 and FI are advisory, though an FI in a let property should still be investigated as soon as practicable. Our reports explain every code and price remedials separately.
