What you get is our own team, led by Steven Watt with Callum working alongside him, doing EICRs, fuse board upgrades, rewires, EV chargers, solar and batteries, fault finding and work in business units around AB32. Every installation is tested and certified to BS 7671:2018+A4:2026 under NICEIC enrolment 620239.

Know the town

Westhill is in Aberdeenshire, and its houses came in waves

Two facts about Westhill change how an electrician should approach a job there: which council it falls under, and roughly when your house was built.

Is Westhill Aberdeen or Aberdeenshire?

Westhill is in Aberdeenshire. It sits about seven miles west of Aberdeen city centre with an AB32 postcode, and the council lists it as Ward 13, Westhill and District. That matters for building work: where a warrant is needed for electrical work in Westhill, it comes from Aberdeenshire Council, not Aberdeen City Council. We say at survey whether yours needs one.

A planned town that is ageing all at once

Westhill was planned in the 1960s and the first houses went up from 1968. Whole streets were built together, so whole streets now have wiring of the same age. A house from that first phase is well past fifty years old, and if the fuse board looks original the cable behind it probably is too. That is where an EICR earns its fee before anyone talks about a rewire.

1980s to 2000s homes and the newer estates

Most later Westhill houses have sound cable but an old board, too few sockets and nothing for an EV or a home office. Many have also been extended, so one house can hold two generations of wiring. The usual job here is a modern consumer unit, extra circuits and a charger on the drive rather than a full rewire.

Business parks around the town

Westhill also has the Arnhall and Westhill business parks, full of offices, workshops and engineering units. Those premises need periodic testing, emergency lighting checks and alterations planned around working hours. A small commercial EICR starts at £300 + VAT, and larger sites are priced after we have seen the boards.

Not sure which wave your house belongs to? Call 07304 027013, tell us the street and roughly when it was built, and we will tell you what we would check first.

Services in AB32

What we do for Westhill customers, and what it costs

Each of the main services has its own Westhill page. Electrical prices exclude VAT. Solar and battery prices carry 0% VAT on qualifying homes.

Electrical inspections (EICR)

A full inspection and test of the fixed wiring, for landlords, buyers, sellers and anyone in a first phase house who wants to know where they stand.

An old fuse box or early board swapped for an RCBO consumer unit, so a fault on one circuit no longer takes half the house down with it.

£550 to £950 + VAT

Rewiring

A smart 7.4kW charger on the driveway, checked against your supply and earthing first. OZEV authorised installer, reference EVHS/WCS14254.

Solar PV with SolarEdge, SolaX, Fox ESS or Alpha ESS equipment and tier 1 panels, with or without a battery.

Commercial EICRs, three phase work, emergency lighting and alterations for business premises in and around Westhill.

Commercial EICR from £300 + VAT

Sockets, lights and small jobs

Extra sockets, outside lights, a new shower or cooker circuit. You get a clear price before any work starts.

We tell you on the call whether we can price it straight away or it needs a free survey, and the written price follows within one working day of the survey.

Prices

What do electrical jobs cost in Westhill?

Every job gets a clear price before any work starts. When you compare quotes, check whether the figure includes VAT and whether it covers the whole job, because directory averages mix the two.

Repairs and small jobs

Some repairs and small jobs cannot be fully scoped until we are standing in front of them. We price the work once we know what it is, before we start, and fault finding is £80 to £150 + VAT for the first hour because tracing a fault takes test equipment and time before anything is fixed.

When you get a fixed price instead

Anything we can survey is quoted as a fixed job: a fuse board, a rewire, an EV charger, an EICR. The price you accept is what you pay. If we uncover a new fault part way through, you get the cost for it before we touch it.

A home EV charger on a Westhill driveway

This is one of our own jobs in the town, photographed on site by our team. The charger sits on the garage wall where the cable reaches the parking space without trailing across the drive.

  • Supply checked first. Before a charger is fitted we look at the incoming supply, the earthing and the consumer unit, because those decide what the install needs.
  • Smart, as the law requires. Every home charger we fit is a smart charger, and the units we use can also run off solar panels added later.
  • Certified at the end. The new circuit is tested and certified to BS 7671:2018+A4:2026, and the paperwork is yours to keep.

The team that surveys your job is the team that does it.

No call out fee for a quote, no lead agency in the middle. Open Monday to Friday 8am to 6pm and Saturday 9am to 1pm.

Warning signs

Should you call an electrician for an electrical warning sign?

Yes, when the warning comes from the wiring inside your home. Here is what to do first, and who to ring, before an electrician arrives.

Signs that need an electrician

  • A burning or hot plastic smell near a socket, switch or the fuse board
  • Scorch marks, or a socket or plug that feels hot
  • Buzzing, crackling or sparks from an accessory
  • A breaker or RCD that trips again as soon as you reset it
  • Lights dimming or flickering across the whole house

What to do straight away

  • If it is safe, switch off that circuit at the consumer unit, or the main switch if you cannot tell which one, and stop using the socket.
  • Fire or smoke: get everyone out and call 999.
  • The whole street is off, or the supply equipment is damaged: that is the network operator, on 105.
  • A fault inside your property: call us in opening hours on 07304 027013.

When you ring about a fault in Westhill we tell you honestly when we can be there, and fault finding is £80 to £150 + VAT for the first hour. For a fuller walk through, read our guide on what to do in an electrical emergency.

Before you book anyone

Is a Level 3 electrician fully qualified?

Not on the strength of the words Level 3 alone. Level 3 describes the level of a qualification, and an electrician also needs proven site experience, current knowledge of BS 7671 and, ideally, a firm that is assessed every year.

A qualification is held by a person

A Level 3 diploma such as City and Guilds 2365-03 is the core qualification for electrical installation work. On its own it shows study and workshop assessment. A fully qualified electrician has also shown competence on real installations through an apprenticeship or work based assessment, and keeps up with each new amendment of the wiring regulations.

Registration is held by a firm

The Scottish Government's Repairing Standard guidance (Annex D3, D.61 and D.62) treats an inspector as competent when they work for a firm in an accredited registration scheme such as NICEIC, or can meet a checklist covering insurance, assessed BS 7671 training in the last five years and the Approved Electrician grade. Ask any firm about both the person and the business.

What we hold

Steven Watt holds City and Guilds 2365-03 (Level 3 electrical installations), 2382-22 (BS 7671), 2391-52 (inspection and testing) and 2921-34 (EV charging). The business is a NICEIC Approved Contractor, enrolment 620239, TrustMark registered and an OZEV authorised installer. You can check company SC821028 before you book.

Scotland, not England

The rules behind an electrical job in Westhill

A lot of advice online is written for England. These are the points that actually apply to a house or business in AB32.

No Part P here

Part P is an England and Wales building regulation and has never applied in Scotland. If a quote for a Westhill job mentions it, it was written for the wrong country.

Building warrants come from Aberdeenshire Council

Rewiring an existing house of up to two storeys does not need a building warrant. A flat or maisonette, or a building of three storeys or more, does, and the owner applies to Aberdeenshire Council. We tell you at survey and write the answer on the quote.

Rented homes are inspected every five years

A private let in Scotland needs an electrical inspection at least every five years, covering the fixed wiring and any appliances the landlord supplies. We remind landlords when the next one is due.

EICR codes after Amendment 4

Under BS 7671:2018+A4:2026 only a C1 or C2 makes an EICR unsatisfactory. C3 and FI are advisory, but an FI in a rented home should still be investigated as soon as practicable. Our reports explain each code plainly and price remedials separately.

Unsure whether your job needs a warrant?

Ask on the phone or at the survey. The answer is written on your quote alongside the price.

Who comes out

A small team you can name before it arrives

Steven Watt runs Faithful Spark Electricians. He began as a Royal Navy apprentice in 2001, set the business up in 2023 and incorporated Faithful Spark Electricians Ltd on 29 August 2024. He leads our own team, with Callum working alongside him. Your enquiry is never passed to a stranger, and you know who is coming before the day.

We are honest about distance. We are based in Peterhead, not Westhill, so Westhill work is planned into the diary and you get a firm date when you book rather than a vague promise.
